1998 Tradewinds

I am looking at a 98 Tradewinds and really like it so far. However I do have a question. I have looked at several DP's and when you raise the bed up in the rear you cannot see the motor, there is another cover between the bed and motor. On the Tradewinds I am looking at when you raise the bed the motor is right there with nothing between the motor and bottom of bed. Is this how they came or is it missing an engine cover?

We had a '99 and you could not see the motor when the bed was raised. A missing barrier of some kind would be a safety issue in my mind. Exhaust fumes, fire, etc.

Kustom,

There is a 2000 Coachman Catalina that showed up on Craigslist today in my hometown. I thought about calling and making an appointment to look at it. It has 43000 miles on the diesel engine, does not specify which engine. They are asking 31000 for it. How do you like yours?

We have a 2000 Tradwinds, there is a large storage box under the bed.
I love it but we bought a new matters and to pick up the matters and storage box takes two men and a small boy. I need a few air rams two pick the hole assemble up.

And the boy better be above average in weight lifting.

I installed a pair of gas spring rams to cure the problem.

We bought ours new and there is no box under the bed. When the bed is raised the motor is exposed.

Thanks for all the replies. However I missed the deal. When I took the family in Saturday morning to look it over and see what they thought it was gone. We have decided to keep our current motorhome and do some updating on it.

Since it's already sold, I guess I'm a little late in responding.
I've got a 1999 TW, and the bed has a storage compartment under it and under the storage compartment is the cover to the engine compartment.
I think folks are confused as, when lifting the "bed", they are probably lifting the bed AND engine cover together, hence they see the engine, not the storage compartment.
The bed itself already has rams to aid in lifting. The engine cover has a metal post to swing down and set on the top of the engine.
Clear as mud?

Hey mrk,

Ref your: "metal post to swing down and set on the top of the engine" comment...can you describe what the metal post looks like/where it sits/or show a photo? Mine is missing, and the wooden stick I use has failed a couple of times leaving me cussing/fussing and a bump on the head! Thanks in advance...
