1998 Tradewinds - pump in the front (near generator)

Hi
I just picked up a 1998 Tradewinds motorhome. There is a pump in the front (near generator) that runs constantly. It looks like a hose is missing and we can't figure out what it's for. Sorry if my description is to vague. Unfortunately the guy I bought it from didn't help me and I have no manuals. I don't think it is the windshield washer pump since that still works.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time

Taking a wild guess that it is a vacuum pump needed to for the heat and AC controls.

Welcome to iRV2 .
If the pump is about the size of a pop can , chances are it's a vacuum pump for the dash air conditioning controls .
If the pump runs constantly then chances are you have a vacuum leak some where in the dash, that will need to be repaired.

If the pump in question looks like the one in the red circle in this picture ( sorry I don't have a picture that shows the whole pump ) it's a vacuum pump, but it should shut off when a certain vacuum level is reached .
Do the dash heater /A/C controls work properly ?

Tradewinds vacuum pump

The small air pump mounted to the firewall on the '98 Tradewinds is in fact a vacuum pump for the heat and air controls. The side that looks like a hose is missing originally had a small foam filter on it. The filters deteriorate and fall off after a few years. The diaphrams in the little pumps also fail over time. If you cannot find any obvious leaks in the vacuum hoses to the heat and air system, the pump may be bad. They are inexpensive and easy to replace. The rubber hoses also deteriorate over time. They commonly crack right on the ends where they are pushed over the fittings (you can cut off the split ends and continue using them if they are long enough). The one that commonly fails is on the passenger side air intake flapper on the heater core box (also mounted to the firewall from the outside). Follow the hoses from the little pump. This should be an easy fix.

This is a picture of the A/C vacuum pump just above the generator in my 99 Tradewinds. If the pump your talking about looks like this the guys are right about it being the Vacuum pump. You probably have a hose cracked or off in the Evans system. On a crisp ,not freezing morning, mine will run for about the same time the "Wait to start" light is lit", so you'll know when it's fixed.

Here id a link to the Evans Data,

My sincere apologies for not responding sooner. I have two smaller children that keep me going, non stop and I haven't had the time to fix my issue nor even respond to everyone. Anyways, I can't thank everyone enough for all the assistance. I was amazed by the help I received. I plan to take everyone's advise and try trouble shooting as soon as possible.. Once again, my gratitude goes out to all who took the time to respond. I believe I will fix the issue thanks to everyone valuable insight.
I just purchase my 1998 Tradewinds Motorhome last month and I am just going through everything while trying to learn everything along the way.

Take care everyone and I hope to return the favour, should I get the chance., someday.
Sincerely
Kerry

Finally got around to checking the pump over. It was, indeed, a cracked hose that caused the issue. It wasn't obvious at first but thanks to everyone's help, I knew it could only be a few issues. The crack was close to the end and therefor could cut and still use the existing hose.

Thank you all, once again
Kerry
