We recently aquired a 2001 National Marlin, 35'. We really love it, but previously had a gas powered pickup and very basic travel trailer, so am learning lots of new info.

Only have one problem. It has a small slideout closet which stops about one inch short of fully opening. Manual says nothing about this and quick look has not revealed access to mechanism. Thought I would try to find someone with experience, before I started really tearing out what little hair I have left. If anyone knows how to access and what adjustments can be made, I would greatly appreciate it.

Bill,
Not sure if your wardroab slide is a Powergear product but lets try this for starters.
Page 57 starts with wardroab slides.

Hope this gets you started.

Richard,

Thanks for the reply. I will save the manual for future reference. My problem is, that I am trying to find out how to gain access to the slide mechanism. The the motor, wiring and gearing for the big living room slide is open in the basement. The wardrobe slide seems to be in a sealed area and I am not sure how to gain access to it. There is no access from below. The cabinet under it is the 12 volt electirical and is sealed and the wardrobe and bedroom are carpeted, with no apparent access. What I need to know, is how to gain access to the actual mechanism.

Thanks again,

Bill

Check the floor of the wardrob, it may have a false floor.

Bill,

We had a 37 foot Marlin for several years that originally had the same issue. If your 35 fot version is the same and I suspect it is, the storage compartment under the bed has a false bottom which is removable to access the slide mechanism. The slide motor has adjustable stops.

Richard and Ken,

I have been gone for the past two days so just saw your posts. Thanks for the responses.

Richard, My floor is carpeted in the entire area and does not have any access without actually ripping out the carpet.

Ken, I'm not sure if I understand. Most of the area under the bed in mine is the engine compartment. There is a small area about a foot wide on the front end, but this is not in line with the geared rack which is in the center of the slide. There is a piece of plywood fastened to the side of the engine compartment that lines up pretty much with the center of the slide. There are some wiring blocks attached to it, but I cannot tell if any wires lead into the area behind it to the slide motor. That is where I planned to start taking things apart if I could not find anyone with direct knowledge. Is this what you were refering to, or was yours a front engine unit?

Thanks for past and any future advice.

Bill, The small storage area toward the front under the bed is the area that had a false bottom and was the slide mechanism access on ours. While ours was a M370 model, the rear bedroom and engine area should be the same on your 35 foot model. Ours did not have a removable plywood panel in the engine ompartment, so I'm not sure of what you reference. I do recall some electrical items attached to the curb side of the frame work surrounding the engine opening though.

Hey Guys,

Ken, you were right on the money. I pulled out the bottom of that compartment, and there the mechanism was. It is a different looking unit than any of those in the schematics in the document Richard sent me, but by standing on my head and using in mirror, I did find an adjusting screw back in a recess and then it took about 30 seconds to adjust the outward travel of the slide for a perfect opening.

Thanks again to both of you for your help.

Bill, Glad it worked out. The mechanism on ours didn't seem to hold the setting and I had to adjust it 3 times in the 4+ years we had our coach. I finally over-adjusted the setting which seems to solve the problem. Just had to be careful to release the switch as soon as it reached the extended position.

We also had an issue with it extending very slowly when it was cold. Waxing the bottom of the slide every 6 months or so solved that issue as well.

Ken,

More good info.

The over adjusting makes sense. The thing I wondered was why there is a stop at all. There is no stop for in travel and no stops either way on the larger living room slide. My experience with slides is fairly limited, but with all I have seen, you simply released the switch when you saw the slide reach the end and heard the motor start to overwork.

When you say you waxed the slide, do you mean the outside bottom of the "box" or the mechanism?

More thanks,

Bill

Bill, If I recall correctly, there is a "in" stop adjustment on the closet slide. Also, ours had adjustable in and out stops for the living room slide as well.

Re wax, I used a good paste wax on the bottom of the "box". It rides on what appears to be nylon or teflon blocks.

Sounds good. I will not open the slides again till we leave Minnesota, a couple of days after Christmas, on our annual trek to the southwest. Will give it the wax job as soon as we reach warmer temps.

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving and have a very Merry Christmas.
