Question 2005 Dolphin Backup camera & Monitor replacement

Our B&W monitor has an open circuit that shows itself at only the worst times and blanks the screen just when you need it. I’d like to replace the old technology with newer tech but I’d like to do it with a little knowledge & forethought.

I’ve checked the cable at the camera end and all looks well. I have checked the connector into the back of the B&W monitor and it seems secure as well. I have not removed the monitor so I can only speculate about what is going on inside the case.

What I’d like to do is just replace the B&W monitor with and LCD monitor. I found this diagram of the camera end of the cable which appears to be accurate.

I haven't attempted to extract the monitor so any advice about how to go about this task would be appreciated.

Suggestions? Comments? Words of wisdom?

Never had a problem with the one our old Dolphin, but if something did, I would go with a wireless and maybe an extra camera or two. I've looked at a few and they are pretty slick. I would certainly ask others and check reviews before I purchased though.

That drawing is one I made from the cable I found in my 1999 Tradewinds. If yours is the same than you will need a monitor with a composite video input. I didn't use the audio wires as when it was working all I could hear was the engine running. In yours the audio could be useful since your engine is up front. I used a 7" Boss monitor I found online for about $80 and it worked fine. http://www.amazon.com/Boss-BV7HIR-Widescreen-Headrest-Monitor/dp/B000EOOU2G now it's $60, and although it's said to be a headrest monitor it comes with a stand for dash mounting. I'm sure your present monitor is not the same as mine so I can't help with getting it out. Mine came out pretty easy and left a sizeable hole in the dash. Here are some pictures of how I filled the hole and mounted the Boss Monitor. This is the camera I bought, They also have the same thing with audio Rocky Americas - CCD Color EXTRA Heavy Duty Night Vision Infrared Vehicle Rear View Backup Camera
Good Luck
