THERE IS AN ON/OFF ELECTRICAL SWITCH IN THE BACK STORAGE BIN(DRIVERS SIDE) ACROSS FROM THE BASEMENT AIR AND THE FLEX CONDUIT IS RUNNING OVER AND INTO THE AC UNIT....DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHAT THAT SWITCH IS FOR...ALSO IS IT POSSIBLE TO MOUNT A ROOF AIR INTO THE VENT IN THE KITCHEN..IT IS A STANDARD VENT WITH THE FAN...AND WILL THE 7000 WATT GENERATOR HANDLE BOTH AIRS ????

The switch is for the basement A/C. With the switch in the down position only one compressor will come on. Use the down position when only 30 AMP service is available. The up position allows both compressors to come on giving you additional cooling capacity. Use the up position when 50 AMP service is availalble or when using the generator.

Just saw your second question... No you cannot mount an additional A/C unit where the roof fan is. There is only 12 volts DC there. If you are having problems with your basement A/C unit keeping your HM cool, you may have the above mentioned swith in the 30 AMP (one compressor) position. If you have 50 AMP service or are using your generator, try placing the switch in the up position so both compressors will run. Makes a real difference in out HM.

Thanks for the info...Just bought this Dolphin and have heard negative and positive things regarding the basement air....Had 2 roof airs on the last Pace Arrow...We go to the desert alot for offroading and also Lake Havasu and was concerned about the basement air and wondering if it was going to be enough....I guess finding the filter for these inside the coach is also a real chore...

We have been in 115F and the HM was nice & cool the whole time. Our basement A/C works great. The filter in our MH is under the bed towards the right rear. The is a screen on the side of the bed storage area & right behind that screen is the filter. Just remove the wood cover inside the storage area & there is easy access to the filter. We have had our Dolphin since Jan 2006 and love it. We normaly only take weekend trips and one or two longer trips each year, but have put on 17,000 miles. The biggest & best change we made was to install the Koni FSD shocks. Made a real improvement in handling & comfort. The only ongoing problem we have had is some odor from the gray tank. Had it back to National 3 times & they weren't able to fix the problem. We simply use toilet chemicals in the gray tank now & don't shower with the bathroom vent open, that has taken care of the problem.

Welcome to the forum, trophylite. You have come to the right place for the right answer. Lots of knowledgable folks here that have had the same problems you will encounter, and more. Feel free to jump in, no question is not worth asking. If we can't help you, we'll let you know.

Second the comment on basement air--works fine for us. Regarding tank odor. I had to replace my cheap plastic roof tank vent covers because they were cracking due to sun damange. I put some metal ones on. I haven't noticed odor since then. It may be possible that the standard covers don't vent properly. Can't prove it, but worth a look.

We had the odor problem as well. Turned out to be a vent pipe that was never brought up through the roof. I drilled a hole in the roof and brought it up the rest of the way and the problem was gone.
We love the basement air and heat pump. Once you learn how to use the heat pump, you'll pick it over propane.

Ok Rick I need to "learn" how to use the heat pump because mine is worthless. It blasts the fan but does little to heat the coach. It went into the shop for a week while they went through the system and talked with National, while they still existed, and the result was that is the way it works. About as effective as the old heat strips they put in roof top units.

I'll jump in with my procedure. If the temperature inside coach temp is below 67 degrees, I'll use the LP system to bring-up the temp. I then turn on the heat pump, insuring the "Set" temp is no more than 4 degrees higher than the "Room" temp. Obviously you will have to "Bump" the "Set" temp up as the "Room" temp rises. I don't expect the heat pump to be efficient if the outside temp is lower than 40 degrees. I change the A/C-Heat Pump intake air filter on a monthly basis when we are traveling.
Another thought, are you sure both compressors are coming on? If you go outside while another turns on the system, you should hear the system come on and shortly thereafter the system will seem to stop, but comes on again. You can listen carefully while inside, however you will be dealing with the fan noise.

We had the coach heated up and went to bed with the "pump" set for heat. Teh hetear blasted on about once an hour for up to 45 minutes at a time. Barely keeping the coach anywhere near warm. I am really surpirsed at how weak this solution is. I have had a home with a heat pump before and it worked quite well!
