Has anyone ever removed or witnessed the removal of the front mounted tv set? How many folks did it take or what kind of special equipment was used to accomplish this task?
First hand knowledge only please. Conjecture or opinions not desired....

I removed and reinstalled the 27 inch tv up front.

It took two of us. We used nothing but muscle. It was not a fun job. Especially while one held the tv at bay while other disconnected wires at back. There are 2 brackets that engage to the back side of the front bezel of the tv cabinet. these brackets are bolted to steel members on each side of tv opening.

The pan (metal piece under tv) is held in with 4 bolts that are horizontally positioned and need a open end type wrench to loosen. The aft 2 bolts were removed to allow tv to swing downward a little and clear the ceiling while sliding it back and out. There also was a gadget on the pan that engages the bottom of the tv to secure it from moving forward(toward the front).
Getting it back in was trickier and somewhat strenuous for me and my son. That gadget thingy was the main problem going back in.

Right now I won't get into why I took it out in the first place

Marty, That is exactly what I was hoping for. I have been in there and found those bolts but I was afraid of what would happen when you loosened them. I queried NRV and I was told that there is no "official" procedure but they told me the same thing you did. Their reply came in just before I looked back here. I was in there early on because I was disapointed in the fact that they hooked the dvd player to the set with the lowest resolution system there was (and cheapest). I got in there an installed the three cables for the component type connection and what a difference that made in the dvd picture. But now I am having some intermittent problems with the tv itself. However, once I get it out, it will never go back in there. I am working on an isolation mount for an LCD monitor to replace it. Besides the tv must weigh 200 lbs and that will help the load a little.

Kent, your welcome. I would be very interested in your LCD conversion results and methodology. I have often thought about doing the same every time I hear that knock or rattle come from the TV area. Would certainly be nice to lose some weight at that height.

I have that space between the TV and the front cap packed with fiberglass insulation and silvered bubble pack material. That really has cut the heat gain tremendously in the front area. And I believe has cut down on some wind noises.

Marty, When I get into that mode I will do my best to document what has been done. My initial idea is to build a wooden box with a removable bezel that will "squeeze" the monitor ends in place with a sandwich of closed cell foam rubber. Until I get this other monster out of there however, it will remain an unfinished project. You always need at least one of those!!!

Yep, we have a 200lbs boat anchor mounted over head. I have 31" wide and 21" high to work within. I want the LCD tv mounted behind the wood bezel. So far I have not found a TV with the right dimensions but the search is not over. Once found I will build some sort of adapter that will mount the new tv to the old metal framing used to hold the old tv in place. We are in California right now. I'm consulting for a company I am still partners with. Being we are a contract MFG, I have access to all of our machine tools so I can engineer and build what ever I need that I can't buy. While I have the TV out I'm going to insulate the front cap and tie up all the loose wires floating about in the overhead area. Less rattles, less weight and less heat. Thanks for the reply.

The tv is ready to come out. There are still a couple of variables that have not been solved such as the plastic dash area overhead panel. I am not sure how much that is going to interfere with lowering the side edges of the bottom panel. There is also the matter of the metal device that is welded to the bottom plate that prevents the tv from moving fore and aft. I have some photos of the preliminary work at the link below. My son-in-law is going to help me this evening and hopefully I will be able to show you a big open hole there.

My choice of lcd tv is a Samsung 26" . It measures 29+ inches wide and 18" tall without the base. I want to allow room somewhere so that I can stow cables to make a connection to my computer and HD camcorder. I don't want to have to remove any screws or anything to get to those cables.
