2008 Pacifica Chasis Battery Charging

Does anyone know if Pacifica has the BIRD system? AND Should shore power be charging the chasis batteries?

Thanks...Robin

Call RV Custom Products and ask the documentation for your Battery Control Center (BCC) they will email it to you. The documents include a troubleshooting guide for the board.

We have a 2008 Pacifica 40D and we do NOT have a BIRD. We have a Battery Tender that keeps our battery in great shape while plugged in.

The only way to make sure if you have or don't have a BIRD built into the BCC is to call RV Custom Products and get the documentation and troubleshooting guide for the BCC. It is well worth the phone call for any future problems with the board.

Thanks for your feedback

Thank you for your advise. I will call and get the documentation. We had to have the BCC replaced when we first purchased the RV 3 years ago. So we keep thinking it shouldn't be the BCC, but who knows.

he house stays charged just fine. We installed 2 solar panels 1 1/2 years ago for them. We thought there was spillover to chasis and had never experienced issues with it being charged. Then we parked it from Oct to April and the chasis batteries died. Being 8 years old we figured they were old and needed replaced. But after purchasing new chasis batteries it now seems to drain, and we had never noticed it before this. So we don't know if we have a slow drain somewhere. The new batteries show they are fine when metered. So when we went through all the documentation we have on the RV we could not identify that the chasis is actually being charged with spillover. That is the reason I asked the question.

We have also purchased a battery tender now. But, of course, we want to know if there is another issue, not just put a bandage on it.

Regards - Robin

The usual cause of the BIRD (if you have one) not working is the failure of the interconnect relay. It connects the chassis and house batteries together for starting the engine if the chassis battery/batteries are low and to cross charge the batteries. I replaced mine with one rated at 200 amps, normally they are 85 amp. If there is something wrong with the BIRD circuit on your BCC it is cheaper to install a Battery Tender as Frantz did or a Trik-L-Start. I would be surprised if you don't have a BIRD. Everything I have read on IRV2 and on the National RV Forum, National order the BCC with BIRD on them.

I have 520 watts of solar. My chassis battery is charged by the solar once the house batteries reach 13.2 volts through the interconnect relay and stops when they drops to 12.2 volts. It also works in reverse, with the engine running when the chassis batteries reaches 13.2 volts the interconnect relay will close and charge the house batteries. There are parasitic voltage draws on the chassis battery that will drain the batteries in a couple of weeks.
Good luck, please let us know the outcome.
