Thought I'd get this started so we can plan ahead for next year and give all our fellow Orphans time to plan. Looking for a time and location that will fit most schedules. The mini Rally we had in New Mexico was great as we viewed and drooled over each of the Coaches and the upgrades/mods that were done. Dan and Dick both have posted the things they have done here on the Forum, but the actual close up in person viewing was fantastic. Really gave me the extra boost to get started. Here are some thoughts.
1. Full hook ups would be nice
2. No Mesquitos
3. Comfortable Temps.
4. Pet Friendly
If you want to meet some great folks and ever wondered how to do that project on your Coach, but needed that little boost then this Orphan Rally is for you. BTW, your Furbabies are welcome also.

Whet your describing there is a Pet Friendly Holiday Inn!
We may not be able to find a place without any bugs. I agree with the full hookups, watching water is a pain. It would be nice to have it for four days and then it really matters to have sewer.
If we get more folks like "Texun1" then corner of the country comes first. Once we know the general area, like which State than finding a place should be easy.
Also time of year is important, especially for those who are still working (poor souls ).
So come on folks let us know who wants to come and where you are, and what time is best so we can start the planning. We found out last year getting three people together, (Wayne and Cyndi joined us late in the process) took a lot of back and forth, so we can't start too early.

We would like to participate.
1 - After July 10th. We retire July 1. We would prefer Fall.
2 - Location in order of preference: Northwest, West Coast, Mtn. States, Southwest
3 - Length 4-5 days
4 - Reasonable per night cost; full hookups.
We would probably not go to TX or parts of Southwest in the summer. Temps are high & the drive is hard.
I would work on the organization if needed/wanted if the location is in the Northwest. We can offer ocean, desert, mountains in many locations. Fall weather is usually superb.
We look forward to meeting all of you next year.

Marilyn & Steve,
Good suggestions, especially the 4-5 days and after July as there are a few others retiring about the same time. I love the Ocean since I grew up a few blocks from it in San Francisco. We have plenty of time, but is there anyplace you are aware of that is pet friendly on the beaches?

There are some Oregon State Parks on the coast that might work. Check them out at Oregon Parks and Recreation Department: State Parks Group services
We belong to Thousand Trails so will check their offers on a group gathering. There are certainly other RV parks on the coast. The weather can be a bit dicey on the coast but LOTS to see & do.

I will offer up Front Range Colorado in general; specifically Colorado Springs area and Loveland-Longmont-Estes Park area. Usually great late summer weather (occasional snow dump in Sept.). Few bugs--mosquitoes depends on the year-wet or dry but not much in the fall. Tons to see and do.
Plus, we live right in between. Perfect, eh?

I'd still like to get some input on the Delores Co. Rv campground. That's a great area and would be good in the early fall.

Texas has some great areas that we can explore, BUT as we all know only certain times of the year. With that said we are open to Colorado, Montana, or Wyoming. We can second the Estes Park area, we stayed at Elk Meadow (mid Sept) and they can handle a large or small group. Close to town, and all the things to see and do. Yellowstone would also be a great choice, depending on the time of year. It could be a long ways for some people as well, so that could be an issue. I have never heard of the camground VegasDan mentioned but certainly would be worth looking into. Great area. For the poor working souls, we need time to plan.
We are currently sitting in New Mexico, between Taos and Las Vegas. Great weather, absolutely beatiful, but not much here so, with that said we won't put in a vote for this area.
Lets keep this thread going so that we can get all the options/opinions available.
Also, other forums have the ability to run a poll once we narrowed the selections. Maybe we need to contact a site administrator to see if that is available.
Ok, back to vacation (Santa Fe Tomorrow)

We would go for Yellowstone mid-September. Cool nights. In September 2003 we had wonderful weather but did have to run ahead of small snow storm out of Yellowstone & into Tetons. It was worth every minute. Magnificent time of year to visit.
How about Bryce/Zion area?
Where is everyone coming from?

Some advantages of the Delores, Co. campground would be: fairly centrally located, lot's to see and do (Mesa Verde should be seen to be believed, the San Juan mountains, Durango, Teluride, Canyons of the Ancients, Hovenweep Nat'l Monument, etc.), For those who would want to extend their trip, Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon are a days drive away. Or I'd vote for my home town in Nebraska. Nothing to do and lot's of corn fields.

This one looks good. I guess there could be some skeeters but we've decided to use our repellant instead of saving it. Can't beleive we were just that dumb. Anyway I forget the bites and remember the rally.
I haven't looked into the Pac NW suggestions yet, but want to. It's a long drive but the area is sure nice.
