Does anyone know how to troubleshoot an electric awning that opened just fine a few weeks ago?

We just purchased the coach a month ago and it was working then. We have two brand new house batteries. All other 12V things work fine. Is there something that could cause it to just stop working? It's our first power awning so I'm hoping it's just an operator error.

Hopefully I hope I haven't exceded my question quota

Thanks,
Susie

After researching A&E awnings I have concluded that the electric motors that open and close them are not very reliable. My MH Is only a few years old and already the motor only functions intermittently. If you are lucky, you may just have a poor electrical connection. You can download the manual, and find where the connections are, by going to the Dometic website. Operation & Installation Manuals - Dometic

Hi Peliaspastia,

Thanks for the link! Definitely a good place to start. Only thing is I can't get the model number w/o opening the awning . Seems like a intelligent place to put the model#.

I called Dometic and they were totally useless. We'll keep trying and I'm inclided to take out the 4 screws on the motor box to see if there's a reset button or if the fuse has gone bad.

Thanks,
Susie

Hi Susie,

The awning control box is located in the passenger side second bay area behind the entry. Remove the cover (four screws) and there is a 15 amp fuse and programming button in the control box. Check them first.

WIth older A&E awnings there are two things that can make them not open. That I have come across,, (There are a few more I've not seen yet)

What I have not seen is a bad switch or bad control board or blown fuse

What I have seen is one bad motor.. This one would not close, I had to roll it up the hardest way (Using wrenches to take it apart and roll it by hand) and call Rachel to come put a new motor in for the poor guy. (She's the RV GIRL)

The one I had myself was a wind sensor.. Even though it was dead calm it said "HIGH WIND" and would not let the awning extend.

now this one is super easy to check

on the side of the control box is a small silver toggle switch

Toggle.... if it now extends normally that's your problem

NOTE: WARNING: WARNING: WARNING: This disables the auto-retract features,, ALL OF THEM so if the wind comes up it won't auto-retract

If you pull a Robin WIlliams (Drive off with the awning open) It will not auto retract

IN short..... You will have to bring it in manually. (Push the button)
