Yesterday cost a plenty. I needed new tires so had them on order and when the guy called saying they were in, the coach wouldn't start. Get out the big checkbook

First: New chassis batteries. 2X G31 Sealed 12VDC Interstate Batteries $350.00 I did OK on the old ones they were dated May 2001, hope these new ones last as long.

Second: 6X Toyo M154 245/75 R 22.5 Tires date code 4115. $2620.00 Installed with spin balancing.

This took most of the day and we're clearly feeling the pinch.

Taking your total cost dividing it by the age of the coach, that's $185. a year for tires and batteries.......not bad. If you replace tires every year....not good.

I'm with Brobox. Operating costs for tires and batteries quite reasonable if the tires were as old as the batteries.

I guess spending money is just part of the "fun" of ownership.

Looks like the batteries caught you off guard.
But it's certainly better to replace tires when you decide than when they decide!

Big truck tires can add up quick, yours are less than mine. I bought 8 new rear tires for mine 11R22.5 and it was a bit over $3300 total, that was about 1.5 months ago. So I am very sympathetic to the pain in the wallet!

Batteries I think you certainly got good life out of them.

Just got my MH( as you know) [emoji3] and i hope i dont have that type of expense for several months! Im sure you would have rather made that expense planned instead of by surprise!

Love my Toyo's and especially the price. Priced Michellins for mine and even with the FMCA pricing they were almost twice as much.

I feel your pain. I just took my "new to me" 2005 MH in to Freightliner for a thorough goping over checkup (engine, tranny, genny, etc). (Un)Fortunately they found a couple serious fluid leaks - valve cover leaking and tranny rear seal leaking. Gotta drop the tranny! I'd rather pay now rather than later out in the middle of Nowhereville :-)

Good price on the Toyo's. I have about $2800 in the same 6 tires.

Question: did you give the old tires to the installer? I keep mine.

The old tires were seven years old and cracking had started. I could have squeezed another year out of them but having problems in West Overshoes isn't in my plans. I left the old tires with the installer. A real shame to throw away all that thread. At 6K miles per year they hadn't even started to loose meaningful tread. One good thing all six were evenly worn.
The batteries were a big surprise. I had no idea how old they were and had never had any problems with them. Since they were sealed I didn't have to do anything to them but use CRC Battery Protector on the terminals. I hadn't even needed to use the boost switch since 2007 when I bought the coach. Out of sight, out of mind. I charged them overnight and the charger never went to maintenance mode. After jumping it with my truck the speedometer didn't work at all they drug the voltage so low the electronics became corrupted. After installing the new batteries the speedo worked fine. A bullet dodged.

Hi Dick! We put new shoes on our TW this fall, too. Ours followed the surprise retirement of the refrigerator in June.... Cost of that matched the cost of the tires pretty much. All part of the fun...I guess.

FYI - Our Goodyears had only 12K miles on them when we bought the MH in 2012, but because they were 6 years old and we were heading across the US, we decided to replace them. I had the tires installed at Pete's in Corona, CA and the manager told me to keep the old tires and put an add on Craigslist to sell them. Sold them in 3 days for $600. Net cost with FMCA deal on Michelin 275-70R22.5 XZA2 Energy's was $2078.00

If you have a truck (or a good friend with a 3/4 Ton Truck - Thx Steve) and a place to store them. You can save $$$$

I always keep my old tires. Three sets sold via Craigslist. Usually get about $100 a tire or $500/set depending on condition and remaining tread. Sell pretty readily.

My regular RV place quit doing tire stuff a couple years back. They referred me to a local tire dealer that does big tires. He recommended Toyo to me at a cheaper price than Michelin so I put the Toyos on. Since then, some other tire knowledgeable people who've seen my motor home have noticed that I have Toyos and without exception they've said something like: "Oh... Toyos!, you've got good tires on here". Guess I'll do them again in a few years.
