I'm buying a 2001 National RV Tradewinds 7373, and would like some advice on what kind of pre-purchase inspection to do, and what to look for. I have some good general-purpose checklists, but in particular, would like advice about this manufacturer/make/model.

One person suggested going to a Freightliner dealer. I called them, and they suggested doing the Cummins M1 service (but without actually changing the oil or greasing the drive lines). Is that a good way to go about it?

What else would you recommend? Also, where can I get recall and other major repair info?

Thanks!

A few things:
Check date of tires. if over 7 years they need to be replaced regardless of tread.
Check smoke, co and propane detectors.
Have seller run all systems such as heaters (space and water), air conditioners, water pumps, jacks, refrigerator, microwave, inverter, shower, stove, oven, etc.
Have Freightliner do check of drive train and all components thereof and if purchased have all fluids and filters changed.

Check the surge tank for the radiator. If "crazed" or cracked, it will need to be replaced (this is fairly common). I replaced mine at Freightliner. Look at any service records and see how the owner was servicing it.

Dan and Dave gave good advice. I would add that you take it up a long hill climb and watch the temp. gauge. If it looks to be overheating they need to clean the radiator. Mine had to be disassembled to be properly cleaned at a cost 756.00.

If you read through this forum you'll find little if any dissatisfied National owners. They may have been one of the first Companies to have gone under, but it certainly wasn't a quality issue.

I bought a 2001 in January, replaced all the oils and filters, changed the tires, inspected the brakes, _(ended up putting on two new rear drums due to brake linings falling apart), pulled front wheels adjuster bearings, checked all air bags and ride hight valves did a four wheel alignment (rear was out).

I have a great coach and what others have said doing the above gives you a starting point moving forward. Then you know what you have. Nation is a great coach.

Hope you got it for a good price.

Enjoy the ride.
