I have a 2001 Tradewinds 7390 with a Cat 300 3126 and want to change the air filter, but someone said the case and filter are a one piece unit and only available at CAT. Is this true before I begin tearing into it? Also, I am considering doing my own oil change, is there a book that shows where the oil filters are? Is there a manual that shows the location of all the grease fittings and also the fuel filter locations?

Yes the air filter replacement is the element and casing, all one unit. It is availiable at most truck parts stores, it should have a part # and manufacturer tag on the housing. I buy genuine cat oil filters and I believe the air filter was not a cat product. Your original cat manual will show the oil and engine mounted fuel filter locations, they are simple spin on filters. The chassis manual should show the lube spots and the primary fuel filter location.I would recommend getting part #'s from all your filters before going to the parts house. I would also recommend installing a fuel primer pump on your seconary fuel filter housing if it does not already have one (simple install and resonable price). My c7 did not come with one and it is very difficult to bleed the system after a filter change without it. There is more info here in the irv2 cat forum and also the cat yahoo group.

I don't know if you have a Freightliner chassis (the 2002 Tradewinds was available with the XC chassis), but I called Freightliner, gave them my VIN number, & they gave me info on the filter my rig was built with. Now, on the Tropical it was a real knuckle-buster to replace!
