I found this in the back yard today and not knowing a lot about Snakes I don't recognize it. Any help identifiying it. It's about 4 ft. long. This is as close as I care to get. I'm not a big Snake fan

Can't see it really well but by the looks of the head I would guess it's not poisonous!

I'm no expert, but it looks like "Leroy" may be a Great Plains Rat Snake. Here is a link that might help you out, http://mdc4.mdc.mo.gov/Documents/169.pdf

But then again it could be the most dangerous snake in the world....a Liquid Snow Snake, they'll crawl up your aXXXXXe and freeze you to death!

Dick, Does this look like it? This is a Bull Snake or Gopher snake. It's a non poisinous constrictor.

Not that I know anything about snakes, but the pattern and colors look like most of the rattlesnakes I am seeing around here. I treat all snakes as being poisonous and stay far away.

On a related note, last nights newscast mentioned the local veterinarians are seeing an increase in the number of animals being bitten by snakes. They said the cost to treat a dog could easily surpass $2,000. Yikes! The crew that mows the grass in the park here said they killed 14 baby rattlesnakes while weed-whacking. Sounds like a bumper crop of snakes for this summer. Glad we're leaving soon, but infortunaley we're headed right into - virulent airborne fungi in Oregon.

I also think that it is a Bull Snake...often confused with a Diamond Back Rattler. Joe

Common Gopher Snake - non-poisonous, and great for controlling rats and mice - WILL kill a Rattlesnake when confronted with one...

It definitely looks like a bull snake or maybe a gopher snake and is non-venomous, by the look of the head. He is one of the good one to have around to control the mice and other such small critters.
