I've got a 2010 that I'm adapting to tow behind my Tradewinds. Just wondering if anyone is already towing that vehicle and their feelings about it.

I tow a 12 MKZ
hybrid ...easier than my Jeep. Keep in in mind hybrid require a supplemental braking system that works with full time braking( engine off) vehicles.

we have been towing our Prius for years with no problem. We tow with a car dolly. We do not have working brakes on the car dolly and have had no problems going through the mountains here in the western US

We're dragging a 3700lb Mariner Hybrid on a MasterTow dolly w/'lectric brakes...no issues.

We tow a 2010 Fusion Hybrid 4 wheels down. We had a Falcon All-Terrain Tow Bar-with an Even Brake Towed Car Braking System. Bought and installed at Camping World. Have had no Problems. Just don't try and back up, other than that Love it. Just remember to start the car(5 min) when you stop for gas or at a rest area. We also keep our back up camera on while driving just to keep an eye on things.

I've been towing a 2010 Fusion for about 25000 miles, and have had only one issue. The trans burned up one really hot day in AZ. after towing for only about 3 hours. The trans was replaced under warranty. I got in touch with a customer rep at Ford and after tons of questions, I found out that Ford is having an issue with the transmissions burning up while being towed 4 down. While the car was in the shop having the trans replaced, I talked the mechanic into cutting a fairly large hole in the plastic cover that is below the trans, to allow more air to circulate around the trans pan.

The owners manual says to stop every 6 hrs. to run/cool the trans while towing. The mechanic suggested stopping every 2 to 3 hrs., and to NOT tow over 60 mph. This is not a problem for me, but it may be for some folks. Following these guidelines, I have not had a problem for about 22000 miles of towing.

Bill, Is your Fusion a hybrid? I ask because I have read my owners manual front-to- back and can find no reference to the 6 hour run/cool cycle you mention. My manual basically says to hook it up and go as fast as 75 mph.

When we had the tow equipt. installed the tech recommended stopping every 3-4 hours and run engine for 5 minutes or so. thats why we do it whenever we fill up with gas or rest area when we walk the dog and I take a walk around rig and toad, making sure all is well w/hook up. We have put over 17,000 miles since 2010 and as said earlier..No Probs. I will say that we don't go over 65 unless were goin downhill. But no more than 65 mph should be fine.

I have a regular 2010 Fusion SE with a 4 cyl. On page 196 of the owners manual it talks about the speed limitation. I don't know if the manuals are the same for the hybrid. The point is, Ford is having issues, and that [especially, if you are out of warranty], a conservative policy on your part may save a lot of money in the future.

By the way, I get about 2 miles per gallon better mileage at 60 than at 65 mph.
