Arm Rests

The arm rests on our 1998 Tropi-cal need to be adjusted but looks like they are setup with fixed stops. Has anyone found a way around this?

Some arm rests can be moved by pulling them straight out at the pivot point and adjusting them up or down a notch.

Not sure what you mean by adjusted. On our 1997 Dolphin the passenger left arm rest becomes very loose... will not hold position. I unzip the cover and tighten it with a 5/8 (or maybe larger) socket. I don't know if this is common or just a previous owner broke the arm rest.

What I mean by adjustment is that the front of our armrest has over time
become lower than what is confortable. Some armrest have an adjustable stop that can overcome this problem but our tropical appears to have mechanical stops that are not adjustable so there is no simple way to raise the front to a more confortable position.

You might try tightening the pivot bolt that holds the armrest on to the back of the chair. This helps with our unit.

I unzipped mine and removed the arm to check for adjustment because it was about 1 1/2" lower. Bad new was it only has one stop that holds it in the straight out position. Located within the backrest are the catches that control the arm angle. I could not see them clearly but I could feel inside and tell they were bent.

I put it back on and tightened it down and added a couple of drops of blue loctite just to make sure the bolt dosen't loosen up in the future. After I had it on good and tight I grabbed the arm and slowly pulled it up to the correct angle.

That was about a year ago and it still looks fine and seems to have suffered no ill effect from my tweaking. My guess is that someone over the years has used the armrest as a seat and caused the downward angle.
