My first foray on this or any site. Be gentle.

We have an 03 Dolphin LX, 6355, Workhorse chasis. On the right side of the dash above the toggle switch which moves from radio to TV is another labled auxillary. After nine years of (we bought it new) off and on thinking about this switch I haven't the faintest notion what it does or does not do. It has wires connected (too lazy to trace and not gymnastic enough either). I've switched it on and off occassionally and looked for something going on or off----nothing. Obviously it is not hurting me---but I may not be enjoying it's benefits assuming there are some.

What is this switch for?

Oh yes my wife claims I procratinate but I'll put that discussion off to another day.

I'm not certain but it might be your auxillary start button which connects your house and chassis battery banks to help start the engine if your chassis batteries are low. You wouldn't see anything when you pushed it but could probably hear a solenoid clicking if someone was at the rear of your coach near the batteries.

Just a guess.
Good Luck

Rick

Thanks---but that switch is on the lower left of the dash and labled. Good thought though. I appreciate your time.

The owners manual states that the AUX switch is for dealer installed options. My AUX switsh was connected to the overhead dash fans at the factory.

Spent some time in my owners manual and cannot find a reference to an auxillary switch. Thanks---however.

njs42,
Welcome to the friendliest and most supportive group of people you will ever meet... bashing people is on this board is almost unheard of and anyone who even comes close is reigned in by the moderators and/or the disdain of the group.
RickO is right-on, as usual... gotta be something clicking or a light coming on somewhere to give you a clue. I suggest you enlist family/friends for a "mystery switch sleuth party" ...station them at each quarter and toggle that switch.
I also suggest you simply turn the ignition switch to "on" to energize the circuit without all the engine noise, then toggle the switch while your helpers listen carefully and closely.
I cannot think of any electromechanical device which operates without some sort of click, whirrr, hum or other physical manifestation.
Only other thought is an "auxillary heater" to pre-heat intake air if your rig is a diesel... that might work "silently"... but there would still be a slight click from a solenoid, even so.
I'm betting you will eventually find the function if you try it in the quiet of night with a few helpers. Be sure and let us know...
Best of luck,
Jim

I'll do it and let you know------I never thought this might be a good reason to have a party.

I'll get the participants to help BEFORE we open the beer.

Thanks this is a good suggestion as with the others.

Didn't have a party---went out with a little more courage and tried your suggestion myself. Heard and saw nothing but------

I lifted the access panel in the dash and found three wires (red) connected to this switch, on one pole only. One wire ran to the cigarette outlet, so I pushed that in and it worked whether or not the switch was thrown sooooo----I pulled the switch from the dash ( could have done that nine years ago, but I digress) and found that sure enough only one pole is connected with these three wires.

Follow me here because I know as little about electricity as anyone. I surmise that the three red wires are all hot and provide power to this switch---the switch on the other hand powers nothing and has not been connected to anything.

I did not check for power at the other pole---but it is a switch afterall. I did not chase the other wires because they dissappear in the maze. I do not have a wiring diagram. The pole on the switch is not labeled in any way out in, plus minus, on off etc; Wadda ya think?

njs42,

Our 2005 Dolphin has a AUX switch on the dash panel as well. The AUX switch is provided for dealer installed options. Mine was not wired to anything, so I wired my CB radio power to it.

I should have done this sooner because I crawled down under my dash to get to a fuse panel on the fire wall to get a hot lead for my CB and GPS and break away light for my tow set up-------there it was right up on top. SSome day I'll tell you about getting stuck under my dash-------that's another story for another forum I guess.

Thanks for taking the time----- all this has led to me solving the mystery and learning the switch does nothing---at least for now.

AUX switch is simply a spare. I used mine to turn on an amp&sub.

For all said, just trying to crawl under there is a job, and then, trying to crawl back out of there is another story ..........
