I am interested in buying a Tradewinds 40F with a basement air. I turned it on during an 84 degree day. The motor home never seemed to get cold enough.
Is the basement air inadequate for this coach?

Yes, possibly no. If the unit is a dark color top and bottom you may have a problem. The most likely cause is the 30A/50A selector switch for the AC system is set to 30A, or you are runing the system on 30A.

I am not sure where the selector switch is located on your unit, however others will be able to point it out.

Do you have the manual for the unit?

The technical info is a little more info, however the system operation will be your best bet. I wish I have a link to the system operation, possibly others will fill in the blanks.

Our unit works well in 100 degree weather, however our unit is light colored and we cover the windows in high temperaturers.

The30/50 switch is on the compartment with your electrical cord. It is located to the left if your cord reel. It is an outdoor toggle switch, in the up position is for 50amp which will run both ad compressors. The down position is for 30amp and will only operate 1 compressor. I have a 40f and have no problem with the basement air cooling the unit in 90 degree temps. Make sure your air filter is clean.

Unfortunately, I do not remember the color of the a/c unit. My brother thinks the name of the unit started with the letter "C." Were there any Colemans or something like that installed in Tradewinds?

The unit in my2006 Tradewinds 40f is RVP Rv products. A division of Airxcel Inc.

The basement air in my 40d did not cool enough either so I added a roof air kicker 15000btu. I think the basement air would be ok on the light colored units mine is the dark brown and it won't get below 80 on a summer day down here.
As already posted make sure it is on 50amp mode and the filter is clean.

How much did it cost to put in the ceiling air and where did you put it?

I bought a carrier 15000 btu unit it cost $599. I installed it in the hole where the lounge area fan was and used the wiring from the fan back to the control panel. Pulled a romex from there to the breaker panel at the end of the bed. I used the washer dryer breaker for power you just can't use the washer at the same time as the a/c.The 50amp power will run the basement a/c and the roof a/c at the same time and that really cools her down.

I now have more information on the A/C. It is a two ton RVP series 6535B87 with a Tecumseh compressor. Does anyone know if this is the inferior compressor unit or not?
