The only time a battery can freeze is if it becomes discharged. So trhe more discharage its sees then more chances of freezing... So keep it plugged in and you'll be fine.

already been down close to 0*F a few nights and the batteries are just fine... Just did the month end check and charged up 13.2V and water level is right up there.

You said it's plugged in all winter.. If so then the batteries may or may not be in danger.. but freezing is not the danger.

With a good 3-stage converter/charger the batteries should be full up and the freezing point of a full battery is very very cold Temps of -40 will not damage a full up battery.

IF you have an older single stage, Say a Magnetek 6300,, Leaving it plugged in full time can damage the batteries by boiling them dry.
