I have a 2000 sea view National. The battery disconnect was working fine when I would switch to disconnect it would make a clicking sound. Today for no reason, it quit working and the battery light is on. I disconnected the batteries, I reconnected and the light is on. I think the switch works, when I reconnected the batteries the silver coil in front right bay made a clicking noise. Tried this several times, the coil continued clicking Is this normal for the coil to make a noise when power is applied? Is there a common part that goes bad, or what should I be looking for to fix this?

The motor home is plugged in to external power currently.

I am not sure if this will help but when you are plugged into shore power or have the generator running this will over ride your 12 volt switch. Unplug from shore power and see if it will return to normal. Yes, it is normal to hear the relay click when you turn on/off the 12 volt DC power.

Contacts in the solenoid go bad. Put a voltmeter across the contact terminals and if you measure a voltage that means there is a resistance through the contacts and you are measuring a voltage drop. Replace the solenoid with a continuous duty type. Should be about $30-$40.

On the Outside Terminals you should be reading 13 volts from each terminal to ground. Across the two outside terminal you should be reading 0.00 volts. If this is not what have then I would have to say yes, it is bad. Sorry.

Put your voltmeter across the 2 large posts. The voltage should be .1 V or less. If it is higher, tap the solenoid with a non-metallic tool. If the voltage changes, replace the solenoid.
Here is a link to a quality USA built continuous duty 85A solenoid..

UNFORTUNATELY the silinoid for the battery disconnect is bad and is electronically wired to the rv custom product power distribution center. to test you unplug J4 and run a grounded wire to the front contact this should dissengage it if this does not you have to replace the entire center at a cost of $385 RV Custom Products
