Blinking Genny Start Switch?

Can anyone tell what it means when the generator start switch started blinking after i tried to start it? In the process of try'in to start the switch started this blinking (4 times)in sequince, Never did get it to start as well. It has been starting all along, about every 5 or 6 weeks. I would start it and run it as well as the heat and/or ac and the Boob tube to give her a good workout. Not today, she let me down and this blinking thing started. Any clues to what is happening here? Tahnks for any and all help here.

If your generator is an Onan than the four blinking lights is the start of a diagnostic sequence. After the four blinking lights will come another set of blinks such as two-pause-two or two-pause-three. The problem associated with the codes should be listed in the Onan operating manual. If you don't have one, you can probably find one on-line and download it.

The problem you're experiencing may be that the gas in the tank is too low for the generator to pick up. This happened to me. When it did, I thought I still had plenty of gas. I put more gas in the tank and the generator worked fine. It turns out that when my MH consumes about 50 gallons of gas, the generator will no longer pick up. I still have 25 gallons left.

I assume it is an Onan.

The unit is saying "ERROR, ERROR" and displaying a numerical code that tells you what the error is.

Without knowing the make (And likely model) I can not translate errors but let me check something. On AT LEAST some ONAN generators a first digit of FOUR indicates a problem with the Generator's computer.. Yes, it has a computer. "Processor Fault" but the code on an ONAN should be two digits. and 44 is not one of them.

NOTE the chart I used was for MY Onan.. your generator may have a different code chart.

Thanks Y'all, and I'm thinking I remember it either being 3 and 4 or 4 then 3. I thought I would let it be a couple of days and try it again. It was rather cold that day and it will be back up around the 50 today and tomorrow as well. Thanks again.

Up Date on My 7000 Onan Marquis Gold. The blinking at the switch outside by the genny was 33 and/or 34 from what i could tell. Now the good news is I did get it started and ran it for about an hour and 15 minutes. I Would have ran it a while longer, but I noticed a mild fuel leak at the fuel filter. When the weather gets back to being a tad bit warmer I change out the filter. I have to admit as well, that Sta-bil fuel additive realy works well. The rig has been sitting for about a year and a half now and even though I start it(both coach and genny) about every 5 weeks, I have only had this one time deal with the genny. Maybe someone could answer this for me? When I hold down the switch to the point the light comes on, am I priming it or warming the fuel to start the genny? When I hold the switch down from out side by the generator, there is this lite purring thing going on until i switch to the start side, what is it? Once again, I thank all You who have had National Rvs Longer then I and know so much more!

That purring noise is the lift pump or "primer" for the generator fuel.

I noticed they don't have one of those pre-start positions from the cockpit?

My Onan Manual (Onan 7000 gas)(HGJAA,AB or AC) does not list a fault code 33 or 34. It skips from 32 to 35.

Now, a fault code "3" tells you that you have a 2-digit fault code (second-level fault code). When you get 3 blinks, you are supposed to hit the stop button one more time, then the 2-digit fault code will blink.

Say for fault 35, it will blink 3 times, pause, then blink 5 times. There, you would have fault 35. My book tells me that fault 35 "Microprocessor EEPROM error during self-test". Corrective action: See an authorized Onan dealer.

You got 4 blinks. Fault Code 4 is "OVERCRANK FAULT—CODE NO. 4" with the note, "First-level fault code—Cranking exceeded 30 seconds without engine starting" That is what you told us happened. It cranked and cranked and didn't start. Fault Code #4. No worries! It started the next time.

So, when your generator switch is blinking at you, it is trying to tell you something. Count the blinks, consult your manual.

Onan has free owner's manual downloads on their web site. Find out which model number you have and go get you a free copy!

Thank You Sir, I wasn't aware that I could download a copy, might be a good idea if and when I can get to my info box. Thanks again for all the input on this. It was the first time of ever having an issue with it in 2.5 years, well all most three now.
