Hey all,

I am a newbee like many others. I just purchased a 2004 Tropical t370. Has anyone taken the RCA that came with the motorhome out and replaced it with a flat panel tv. If so, what size did you use and any help in the modification would be greatly appreciated. Also the tv in the bedroom which is a 19in I think. Let me know how the pros do it, so I don't look stupid.

Thanks,
John

I replaced both the TV's in our 99 Tradewinds. The new front is a 22" Samsung and the bedroom is a 19" Westinghouse. I picked them for price and size. Both of them are mounted to the structures but others on the board have used arms so they can use the storage behind the TV's.

Here is a link to some pictures.

I replaced the RCA in our 2004 Tropi-Cal with a 32 inch Sharp LCD. It was a perfect fit and did not require any cutting of the original wood cabinet. Get help when you take out the RCA it weighs a ton.

Which model Sharp did you put in? Do you have any pictures of the install? I would appreciate any help I can get on this.

Thanks,
John

I can't find the model number for the TV right now but I do remember it was 30.5 inches wide and was a tight but perfect fit horizontally in the cabinet. I removed the old cabinet and reused the steel plate in the bottom of the tv carrier. What I did was sheet the bottom with cabinet skin from Lowes so the steel does not show. I cut off the front of the factory tv base to fit inside the cabinet and bolted it through the steel plate and the cabinet skin. In the upper corners I made shims so that the tv could not fall backwards into the cabinet. With the cabinet back in place the TV will not move at all and we have traveled over 13K with no problems. I only have 2 pictures and they are of the finished product. Sorry about the dust but it has been sitting. Gotta get the DW to go out there and do some cleaning.

Wow, great idea. So you can use the base for the installation. I guess that helps with the speakers since they are down firing, correct. Thanks for the pictures. Worth 2,000 words.

I created a cardboard template of the bottom of the TV base in order to line up the holes and then drilled through the steel plate in the cabinet (the plate is removable) then used pre-existing screw holes in the TV base to screw it in place. Yes the speakers do fire down so probably my biggest gripe is that it is not as loud as some other tv's. Seems like all tv's just don't sound as loud as they used to to me.

Both Magnavox and Sylvainia hve 32" models that are 30" wide and will fit in the space. They can be puchased at Target and I got mine on sale for $339. I built an angle iron frame to scew the back of the TV to.
