Chassis battery charging while on shore power?

I have a 2002 Sea Breeze and wanted to know if the chassis battery will charge while hooked up to shore power? I turn the disconnect switch off for that battery while camping because I don’t want it to drain down. Thanks.

most older coaches do Not charge the chassis batteries from shore power.
Our 2008 included. I use an external charger weekly to top up the batteries.

You can also get an echo charger. Hooks to start batteries & bleeds some volts into the house batteries. Works great, no hassle.

That would depend if your coach has a RV custom products BCC. If it does, it should also charge the chassis battery when the coach batteries reach 13.2 volts, IF it is working correctly. Some coachs DON'T and those people that don't own a National coach don't know. It sure won't charge it if you have it disconnected. Use a meter and check the voltage on the coach and chassis batteries, write it down. Then unplug the shore power and take your readings again. If you have a higher volt reading when plugged in it was charging the battery.

My chassis battery is charged when plugged into shore power. It depends on the inverter you have. My guess is your's does too. Do like Charlie suggested. Measure the voltage both plugged in and unplugged and don't activate the 12 volt disconnect switch.

National RV's do charge the chassis battery when on shore power. If yours is not charging the chassis battery the most common problem is the interconnect/boost relay is bad. Call RV Custom Products and ask for the troubleshooting guide for your Battery Control Center (BCC) they will email it to you.

Get the number off of the BCC and post it here. If it is a RV Custom products BCC they can send you a trouble shooting chart. I went through this with mine last year when I first bought my coach. My BCC has some burned caps and that part of my BCC don't work. My coach will never charge the chassis battery from the BCC because I'm not going to replace it. The comparitor circuit is burned up on mine, so I added a time delay on relay to charge the house batteries from the alternator after the engine has run 20 minutes. And I added a Ctek battery maintainer/charger to my chassis battery and plug it in when the coach is in storage.

Does your isolation solenoid work? Do you hear it click when you use the Aux start switch? If it's not working the house batteries won't charge from the alternator and the chassis battery won't charge from the converter.

Google this number 01033-10, that is the number on my board.

Even if you hear the solenoid/relay click doesn't mean it will pass current through it. When mine failed it still operated but internal contacts were pitted and would not pass current.

I will echoe that a solenoid click is not proof that it is working.

I also have an 02 Breeze. My chassis battery stays charged on shore power and the alternator charges house batteries when we are traveling.
