CO and Gas Detectors
Hello, we have just purchased a 2000 National Tradewinds 37 foot motorhome and didn't have it on the road for a hour when the CO2 and Gas Detectors started beeping. As far as we can tell (and we are very green at this), all the gas valves are turned off and we do not detect any smells. The lights flash green/red (are there batteries in these units that need replacing or ?????). It is annoying to say the least and cannot find any info in the manuals. Does anyone out there have an idea. Thank you.

What is the condition of the house batteries? When I bought my '01 new the house batteries were very low, and one of the alarms went off for that reason. It had been on the lot for a while, the dealer replaced the batteries.

I second that on the battery condition. I know it sounds crazy, but a battery with a dead cell causing the water to boil will give off a gas that the gas detector will react to. I had that problem about a year ago. I keep my motohome connedt to shore power and the water in two of my four house batteries was boiling because of dead cells and the alarm kept going off. I disconnected the two bad batteries and the alarms stopped going off. I have since replace all four batteries and have had no alarm problems since.

Thank you very much. We had 2 responses and both suspect the batteries. The seller did tell us that he thought we might have to replace the batteries in a year or sooner - so we will have to look at that option. Thanks again for your input.

If those are the original detectors, you might want to consider replacements. I have read that they have upper life limits like 5-7 years. Check it out. Also, I hope that one detector is sniffing for CO and not CO2.

I think the seller really meant "sooner"-like right away.

The house batteries are the cause. I just had mine go off and discovered that 2 of the batteries had gone bad and the other two were approaching the grave as well. Replaced all four at a cost of $707.00. Last year it was the chassis batteries and two breakers for $600.00. This is a 2007 TropiCal. Hope that is all for a while. Once the four were replaced the noise stopped. Jim
