Have a 2003 Sea Breeze model 300. Does anyone know anything about the black box I am guessing is my converter / charger. It is located in the small bay just in front of the door, bolted to the frame rail area and rivoted together. Mine has nothing written or printed on the outside.

Thank you for the reply. No mine does not match your picture. I will need to photo mine, measure it and update my original post. What I can see of it, it is a square short plain black box.

Your description sounds like what you are looking at is a MagneTek, 900 series Converter/Battery Charger. It is probably the same as I have in my Dolphin.

Thank you all for your responses. With the use of a mirror, a camera and wife with a long pole we were able to get stuff out of the way and hold it at bay then photoprapher the top. Later I reversed the image Seems I have a Parallax Power Component Model 950. I have since found internet information on it. Now to get a hold of RV Customs to see if I can upgrade to a higher amp unit and not have to replace the circuit board.

I simply unplugged the unit that came with my 2003 Dolphin and replaced it with a Heart (now Xantrex) 2000 watt Freedom 458 Inverter/Charger. The circuit board was unaffected.

I did not remove the inverter that was used to power the televisions.

Hi Bob,

We just recently purchased a 2003 Dolphin 5355 and still learning lots. Just curious what is the difference (if any) between a converter/charger and an inverter/charger?

Does yours now have 2 inverters?? If so, just curious why?

Thanks,
Susie

Hello Susie,
Not to be funny but, a inverter changes your power from 12 volts to 110 and your converter changes 110 to 12 volts.

TangoDancers,
I was just looking at the spec sheets on the 03 5355 Dolphin and standard equipment was a 50 Amp charger / converter, it also states that a 400 Watt inverter standard equipment.

In my case I am upgrading from a Parrelux 50 amp to a
Progressive Dynamics 9280 Series INTELI-POWER converter with a
80 amp charger. The biggest amp number I see on my Custom RV circuit board is 50 amp. If I cannot swap them out I will use it as a stand alone while boondocking as I use a 2k generator (6+ hrs per gal) for charging power instead of the onboard 4k onan (2 hr per gal). Soon I will have two more 6 v (tot 4) batteries in my bank hench then need for a bigger charger. I have no inverter built in from the factory. I have a 2k stand alone inverter to be installed soon as well.

Hi Samuangelman,

It's okay to be funny - I'm laughing too but frustrated at not being able to comprehend all this stuff.

Thanks for the clarification. I knew there was a reason I have stuck it out with Electrical Engineering in College... All this electrical stuff makes my head spin... but I'm trying to digest it.

The reason I asked the question in the first place is because I thought you said you replaced your converter/battery charger with an inverter. Perhaps I read wrong.

Thanks again,
Susie
