Cruise Control Failure '98 Tradewinds

(98 Tradewinds)The set button on the end of the cruise control failed first but the resume slide lever still worked. However, it has failed now the cruise does not work at all.

I am sure that one of the owners of your year make and model will respond to this question because if it's been seen by 1 person no doubt it's been seen by others. I sure that someone will walk you through this issue.

Fuse being good (rule that out), I might suspect the brake light switch adjustment or the stalk itself.

My first question: Since the Cruse control resets every time you turn the engine off.. How could the resume work if the set failed? It would "Resume" to ZERO MPH, once you cycled engine power.

Sounds like a simple switch failure.. Been a while since I played with those controls so I'm not sure how the set is supposed to work.

Funny short story... Sunday my Cruise failed on the way to church.. NONE of them woked (Well I assume the OFF position was truly off)

Worked fine when I left church.

Sometimes that's all it takes.

You'll find the schematic of the cruise control switch on page one upper right hand corner of this drawing.

http://cid-ae67fff392766057.office.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/Tradewinds%20Docs/Chasis%20Schematic.pdf

I discovered the switch sends a code to the logic convert module not just a simple switch closure. That doesn't mean the switch isn't bad but it does make it a little harder to troubleshoot. You should be able to disconnect the connector and use an Ohm Meter to verify the switch closures.

Good luck

Dick

Just had a similar cruise control failure and tried to download the schematic link. Its no longer there. Can someone repost the schematic if possible.

Thanks, Kevin

I'm with DriVer. Check the brake light switch adjustment. My cruise control quit working years ago and that was the fix.

Another thing that will affect your cruise control is the hazard lights fuse. That was the problem with my cruise control.
