Recently the lighting which illuminates the switch descriptors on my dash blinked once and then went out for good. The gauge cluster still works fine just the switch labels are out. I can't remember if the switch label lights are activated by the ignition or the headlight switch. I have checked all fuses and all are OK. I don't know how to check the resettable circuit breakers and there are a ton of those. I've looked under the dash and removed the dash module but all I got was a backache. This in on a 2001 Tradewinds LTC 7390 with the 330 Cat. Any ideas? Thanks!

denwatson, Is there a dimmer function built into the light switch by turning it? That's what it sounds like to me. You may have hit a flat spot (corroded) in the windings in the dimmer.

My dimmer controls only the gauge cluster and it works fine. The switch labels are either on or off no dimmer. There appears to be what's called ribbon light strips for the labels.

I found this response to a simular post on a truck board.
check behind the dash for a white ribbon about 1/2 wide this is a fiber optic strip.trace it to a 4" round disc .there will be 4-6 fiber optic strips coming from different sections of the dash.verify all fiber optic lines are connected and the bulb in the center of the disc is operational.
Hope it helps.

Dick,
Thanks for the info re fiber optic lighting. When the lights went out it looked just like a bulb burning out, and all the lights went out. I'm guessing your right if I can only find the disk!

Good luck! Be aware that is second hand info, I have no personal experiance other than I saw the strips when cut the dash to replaced the Radio, Map Light, and added a Camera switch. Ours is a 1999 Tradewinds.
See picture.
