Diesel engine box blanket

I have a 1999 Tradewinds 7371, the other day I opened the engine cover and noticed that the engine box foil/sound proofing was hanging down on one side. I tried to see if I could find a way to reattach it but it started falling apart (literally crumbling in small particles). I ended up removing all of it.

This material just covers the inside sides of the metal engine box/master-bed box but not the underside of the bed platform/engine compartment lid. Is this material necessary for any safety/fire protection reasons (my guess is NO since the box is metal) but I do have carpet glued to the outside of the box. If this is necessary for fire or safety what should it be replaced with.

It is not a must for it to be there but when mine did that I replaced it with some heat padding from Jegs. I cut it to fit all panels around engine and glued it in with 3M. The bedroom temp on the road dropped around 20-30 degrees back there and made it easier for the coach to cool off inside when we stop.

This is our first attempt at photo posting. Crooked but at least it is there.

Looks great! Do you have a part number for this item at Jegs? What 3M adhesive did you use and how is it holding up to the heat?

Jegs #893-14125 used 2 but 1 I think would work as I used the extra on the race car. I used Loctite spray adhesive to hold it to fit it as it can be repositioned then used 3M 8001 weather strip adhesive to lock it down. Sealed all seems and corners with 3M aluminum foil duct tape. 4000 mile trip last year still like new just some road dirt. You can see the 3M tape in the pic. I covered the top too putting it on upside down was the hard part.
