Hello

I have one dog house cover bolt that will not thread in because the nut had disappeared out of the piece that holds it into the hole in the body.

What are these types of nuts called? Do you know where I can get one? Is there a better alternative?

Castle nuts hard to replace check with your local Hardware store or on line with EBay or Amazon!

Any big box or good hardware store. Pick up a couple of options I think those are 1/4-20

Have not found them at Ace or Lowe's.
What do you call that type of nut? Someone else suggested a castle but you, but that does not look right.

I’m not sure but your application might be of one that screws into the wood and won’t come out when your using it. Try a wood workers store. Can you take a photo of another one. I have the same setup but never looked at them closely.

Look at T-Nuts if you can get to the back side it should work and you may even find the one your missing may have pushed out. I know Lowes has T -Nuts

Thank you. The ones in there are Jack Nuts. Got some from eBay, including an installation too.

I found these at OHS. Also at Ace HDWE. They were hard to find because I did not know the proper name.

They are Jack Nuts 1/4 - 20. I buy them at a local industrial supply. Need the little tool to hold the nut until it is compressed.

Check on eBay. I got a packet of them, and the tool came with them. Worked liked a charm.
