Last year after buying my 2001 Islander, I noticed the ice maker didn't work. Well, after going through the Winter without ice, I decided to fix it. Last week I pulled the refer forward and blocked up the front so it wouldn't tip out of the cabinet. Then, still being "bendable" (I should have been one of those guys who crawled into holes in Viet Nam for Charlie), but I was in the Coast Guard! I got my ladder and crawled into the space behind the refer thru the plastic vent. It took some wiggling and I got a few scratches and damaged a skin tag! Found that the factory water line was crystalized. So I installed copper down to the solenoid valve and wrapped the heating element around it and put it all in a plastic tube that electrical wiring runs through on automotive applications. Replaced the solenoid valve and hooked up the line coming from the shut off valve under the refer inside the coach. Glad I didn't have to put the refer all the way out, 280 pounds! So, I'll have ice in Florida this coming winter! While I was at it, I installed a 12 volt vent fan from a computer to suck up air from the outside up the back of the refer and out to top, a little more air to help cool it. Have a switch to turn it off and on, when the spirit moves me, I'll move the switch so I can turn it on inside the coach.
