A note on emergency hammers http://www.lifehammer.com. They will not be where you need them after a collision if they are not mounted in place. Take the time to attach them with double sided tape or screws.

When mounting them in your car make sure they are reachable from the drivers seat with out a great deal of movement. You may be restricted by the damage to the vehicle or by injuries.

I agree with Clfftail..hold the bedspread over the windos and smash away and then lay it over the bottom edge to crawl over.
