Found the roof leak !!!!! Bad Dome installation !

When we bought our used Sea View a couple years ago, I noticed a discolored area on the ceiling near the crank-up TV antenna. The dealer assured me it was an old leak and the appropriate repair had been done.

A few months later we found water dripping out of the over dash cabinets and dampness around the crank-up. Time to caulk! No leak for a few months. Problem fixed! Right?

A few months later more water drips out of the over dash cabinets and dampness around the crank-up. This time I remove the crank-up antenna and caulk the whole antenna mount. No leak for a months. Problem fixed! Right?

Today, I go to the storage lot, remove the cover and get the rig ready to take a little trip. More water drips out of the over dash cabinets and dampness around the crank-up. This time I head up on the roof with my caulk to investigate. No problems with the crank-up antenna mount, so I start eye-balling the (inoperative) King Dome. There were lots of water stains around the cables and Dome mounting brackets.

Off comes the Dome lid and cables. After cutting through the layers of caulking around the mounting brackets, I could lift off the Dome base and dish, exposing the four roof mounting plates. Ahaa! My leaks! The mounting plates were caulked around three sides, but not under the dome. Whenever water ran under the dome, it could seep under the mounting plates. What a shoddy install job!

After removing most the excess caulking, I did a quick clean up of the area and temporarily caulked all the screw holes. Next step will be a more thorough fix. I'll completely remove the crank-up antenna mount, cut away the existing roof membrane over the crank-up and dome. After letting things dry out and making any needed repairs to the roof, I plan on replacing a 3' x 5' section of the roof.

Question.....I've never patched an (EPDM?) roof like this. Any tips?

You can use calk of any kind but calking is a maintenance item. I would use Eternabond Tape
