We took all the metal cage out and will use plywood to hang the mount on. Is any of metal needed for support to motor home or cabinets

The metal cage puts the weight of your new TV on the roof support. The wood cabinets might hold it just as well. Post some pictures and let us know

Plywood supports would certainly work.

I choose to use the existing steel framing and support the weight from the ceiling steel framing because that's how the original TV was supported. I didn't have to buy any additional material (I'm cheap that way ). I found a guy to cut the steel framing back to fit the new TV at no cost.

Good luck with the switch out.

We took out all the metal. We use two pieces of metal ( from Lowes used for afftaching 2 x 4 etc.)ran a board from one side to the other, cut the trim as you did, jammed the TV up against the front and will have straps across the back on diagonal so it can't fall back. We will use the piece of maple trim to fill in the ceiling. We are taking the two half rounds off the side boards(which we are not using) and add to the "ceiling board" which should cover it nicely. We used a 32 Sharp TV we already owned.
This way we can take the screws out of the trim and take the TV out when not in use or to get to the wiring for whatever reason. Will send pictures when I figure out how to dd that. Next is to try to hook up sat. We have Direct at home and will bring HD receiver with us and portable dish. Hope our friend will be over tomorrow to help with that part. Not electronically handy.
