Full Timers

Do most full time MH owners travel with the seasons or do they move to warmer climates and stay there. Do either usually own the parking places where they stay full time and seasonal. Rivrduk

I don't think you can define "usualy", it's sort of like defining "normal". We were fortunate enough to establish a low maintenance mobile home to use as our "Winter Home", traveling in the spring, summer, & fall months as desired.

Finances will determine how individualls approach their travels, keeping in mind fuel will be your biggest expense if you travel frequently.

We own a lot in a RV community in FL that meets our needs best. Most people that travel and rent spaces in a cg or community pay more per season if they travel or stay in warm climates for 3 or more months. The option to purchase requires more than just the cash to buy it. Now you are limited in your destination selection unless you rent it out and use the money to pay for your overnight stays.

I'll conclude with this statement: the "own your lot" communities are plentiful in climates where it is warmer during the winter and they are all full or nearly full Dec. thru Mar.

Totally depends on the full-timer. Most do seek warmer areas in winter and some do own lots there. We are the roaming type. We don't own a lot, but travel (and stay) south for winter and north for summer.

We sure try to travel where the nice weather is and I would think most full timers do the same. It's not likely that many people travel to the warm weather in winter and stay there through the summer if other options are available. Arizona and south Florida are great places in January but not so nice in July. We really need to build that bridge to Maui.

As for the "own your own lot" issue, many people do go that direction but we've found that we can still stay at those places by renting by the month or season... often directly from the owners. Some of these "RV sites" have sold for prices pushing $1M and come with $500/mo maintenance fees but rentals are available right next to them.... although not at campground prices.

Good luck...

There are all kinds of full time RVers, with all kinds of different styles. Some frequent the same locations every year around the same times, while others rarely return to the same place with any pattern, and still others may return to a few places regularly but not others. We generally try to be where we don't have to wear more than a light jacket ...tend to spend 2-3 months each year in Alabama visiting children and g-children, and make annual visits to some relatives enroute to wherever else we are going. We do not own a lot or other parking place anywhere. We tend to stay in one place on a weekly or monthly basis as that is cheaper than daily rates. Our cost per night for the past year is just over $14.

We are probably not normal. We have relatives with an acreage in Cave Creek, AZ where we stay from November through March with full hookups. We take several trips during the winter around the Southwest just to get away. My son has a MH site with hookups in Las Vegas so we travel there a couple times during the winter and then stay there during the month of April and part of May. After that it's off to Colorado up in the mountains for the summer, and then back east for the fall. So for about 7 months out of the year we pay a little for electric and enjoy the weather.

We are about as "full time" as you can get. We spend the entire year in our motorhome, which is totally equipped for boodocking (dry camping). We have 300 watts of solar panels and six Trojan 6 volt batteries to power the coach.

We spend the summers mostly on our property at Matlock, WA (about 25 miles NW of Olympia). We have a well which we pump water out of with a Briggs and Stratton powered suction pump, and we have a home brewed septic system. We do not have any commercial power.

We spend the winters mostly on Bureau of Land Management land at Quartzsite, AZ. We are simply parked out in the desert and have to drive to the dump station once a week to dump, fill, and dispose of the garbage.

We have been doing this for years and will probably keep it up till I'm too feeble to drive.
