Generac Generator in 1998 Seabreeze won't stay on
Wondering if any of you have ideas to research regarding my Generac Generator in 1998 Seabreeze won't stay on.
It starts, stays on a short few seconds, then turns off.
There is 1/2 tank gas in engine.
Thanks!

Generac Q55G
Couldn't attach the service manual, to large
Check oil level
Oil pressure switch
Oil temperature switch
or the Start Stop switch
Didn't say if it has set up for a while or it was running yesterday.

(1) Check for proper oil level.
If okay, (2) Check oil pressure switch.
If okay, (3) Test Oil temperature switch.
If okay, (4) Test start-stop switch.
I can provide instructions for (2), (3), and (4) if needed.

They will usually shut down on 1/2 tank of fuel. Have you tried it with a full tank?
My generac genny was shutting down when I was moving. I took it to a Generac Certified repair facility and they found and fixed two problems.
1. The coolant feeder tube from the plastic tank had pulled up so far from the inside of the tank it no longer sucked coolant as needed.
2. When they removed the front cover on the genny they found that over time a wire bundle had dropped down and a ground wire had been rubbing on the flywheel causing the genny to shut down.
Good luck on finding the problem and please post what you find.

All great tips above. I will have to check those items and get back to let everyone know what cured the problem.
Does anyone know of a good generac generator servicer in the Raleigh NC area?
Thanks again!

Don't know if it has a carburetor but if so a sticky float might do that. Enough fuel seeps into the bowl to initially run but the float doesn't drop enough to keep the bowl charged.

If the generator is anything like my 1996 SeaBreeze you might try priming and then start from the generator itself. Mine did the same as yours starting from the dashboard, but will run just fine when starting from the generator itself.

Take the fuel line off at the generator fuel filter add a piece of hose from a full gallon gas can to the filter start the generator if it keeps running you have cracks in the fuel line from the gas tank to the generator and will need to drop the tank to repair the generator fuel line. I would add more gas to the gas tank first to make sure you have enough gas in the tank.

I had a similar problem it turned out to be a leak in the fuel line where it sucked air. The leak was found on the neck going into the tank pickup. This was on an earlier Monaco motor home we had.

General generator started...
I tried the easiest thing first... checked the oil and it was at the bottom of the full enough range. Managed to get some oil in it... not so easy a place to get to. Then viola, it started up fine.
Also I found a place near Raleigh that will service it (oil change and tune up/filters). Gregory Poole equipment in Garner. They said they don’t repair, but if I could get it started, they will service it. Yay!
Thanks for ALL your great ideas!
