Hard to read gauges

Owner of a '99 National Trade Winds...love it and still learning it since buying in April. One question maybe someone can answer: I have the hardest time reading some of the gauges at night...especially the odometer...the background lighting is a dull red. Is there ANY way of changing the background light to white or bright blue? And yes...I have the rheostat for the illumination all the way up.

Someone told me the bulbs can be changed to brighter ones. I haven't done it yet.
