I ran into this a couple of times. I believe you have rust in the fuel. Everyone thinks of rust as big chunks of metal. In the fuel system it is most times like a cloud. It is extremely small, like very fine sand. It will work itself into the fuel filter and severly restrict fuel flow. You might get lucky and change the filter many times, or you may have to clean out the tank.

Thanks for all the great responses!
Went out and changed the week old filter and it looks ok to me. Certainly not like it was a week ago.
My thinking process is, since that old fuel filter (gas) was so bad that MAYBE some of the dirt got into the injectors SO, I did put some injector cleaner in that I bought from NAPA. Tomorrow I will take it for a test drive and if it's still doing the same thing then I will take it to a automotive shop that came highly recommended to me.
Wayne, going to print out what you posted and take that will me. It sounds like you may be onto something.
THANKS and will keep you updated.

I went back and read your first thread about the gas tank leak, I'd say your tank is probably rusted badly inside and you are pulling the rust into your filter causing the fuel starvation.

Took it for a test drive yesterday and no change.
Now it's in the hand of the Ford dealership. This is their ticket they sent me via email.

As you can see, # 40, was a recall but the service writer doesn't think that is the problem but going to take care of it through warranty.

Were you driving in rain? After checking the fuel system and if you were driving in rain, check the air filter. The way some are designed water will be sucked up into the air filter as you drive. We had this happen first driving in hail in 2004 but did not find the problem until 2006. We had power on flat land but not on hills, could not even make the small ones along the Mohawk Trail. Finally found the air filter full of water. Now we don't drive if it is more than light rain.

The air filter is one if the first things I checked and it was clean like new. Thanks for the idea though.

Ford has come out with a cure for this. It is a new air intake. It costs less than 100 dollars. It also adds more power on hills.

Looks like some of you were correct.
Am sorry to keep posting but since there has been so many views and post on this topic, I wanted to give an update.
Ford just called me and said they had run some test and the pressure on the fuel pump runs at 35-40 psi but when they put a load on it, it drops down to 10 psi so they recommend putting in a fuel pump which requires dropping the tank. He THINKS that this will solve my problem! Hope so because I am looking at a total of $ 1026.00 for labor and parts.
Should have the coach back by Thurs of next week because they won't have the pump until Tues. I sure hope this solves our problem.

Thanks for the updates! If you're getting 35-40 psi at idle, that is right about where it should be. 10 psi under load would normally indicate a fuel pump issue....the pump cannot keep up with the fuel demand at the injectors. That can happen if the pump is leaking internally via the one way return valve or if the sock is coated and fuel flow is restricted. Sounds like they're on the right track....they'll know more when they drop the tank and get a good look inside.
Did they tell you if the pressure is holding at 35-40 for some length of time after shutting the engine down? That would be nice to know too. Also, the price does not seem unreasonable....it's a big job, and new pumps are very expensive. Had one replaced last year on our vehicle at a dealership, and it was right around that same amount.
Thanks for keeping us update...sure hope you get past this soon!

No mention of that.

Make sure it isn't sucking air anywhere in your fuel line. If it was leaking it will suck air and less gas.

Update: Got a call from the Ford dealer and he SAID that when the were putting in the fuel pump, noticed what they thought was rust in the tank and told me that it would be an additional $2,256.00 on top of what I was quoted for the repair of today of $1,103.00. ( $3359.00) WOW! I asked to look at the fuel pump that they took out and I could not see any rust on that part at all.
Told him, I wanted to think about it and went to pick up the coach and they said they would not stand behind the fuel pump since I was declining the new tank at this time.
I drove the coach about 40 miles and going up some hills and when it came out of overdrive, it ran great!! Had lots of power, problem solved.
Keep in mind about what I said in the beginning of this thread, going on our trip it had no power on inclines or when I dropped out of overdrive. We had the fuel filter replaced and it was really dirty. Coming back home, it still had the problem and when I got home (400 miles) changed the filter again and it looked clean.
Don’t mean to be suspicious but am wondering if I really indeed need a new tank!!!! Wife and I talked about it and this is what we decided. We are gambling I know but the fuel pump was $395.00 and we are going to drive it and IF it is clogs up again, then we will pay the $2,259.00 for the new tank and new fuel pump, totaling, $2,659.00. I asked him, so it could be ok now, he said, “well it could run fine for a month or a year or even 5 years but they recommend the new tank. SO our thinking process is that we are gambling $400.00. If he does it again, then we will have to get the new tank which would cost us now or later, $2,256.00 or IF it in deeds clogs the new fuel pump, then would have to buy another pump.
They also replace the Speed Control System Mod, which was a recall. Wonder what that does. Hmmmmm Paid under warranty.

Get yourself a couple cans of Sea Foam and add to your gas on fillups and some extra filters.

Got the extra fuel filters already. Will have to research the other product because I have not used it before.
