icemaker problem?

Tradewinds, 2000. Well, as most of you know from my other posts i am a new MH owner and i have had many questions that have been answered on this forum. I have another one: I purchased my MH from a RV dealer in Denton, Texas who gave me a check sheet of all the things that had been checked out and most were ok, but the first time out i turned the water on to the ice maker and nothing happened, however when i went outside shortly thereafter i noticed water running down the side of the MH under the refrig, cover. I removed the cover and the floor of the frig was covered with water, so it showed me it was not checked as i discovered today while winterizing the unit that the hose from the water valve was not even hooked up, and the connection to the water valve was just finger tight. I took the hose to the valve loose and i notice a metal sleeve inside the water line and a plastic device over the line that screwed into the valve. My question is this. Does the outlet line to the icemaker need the metal sleeve in the line as well. The nut and plastic tightning device were there, but i am wondering if it will tighten enough as i screw the nut tighter or will it collapse and the line leak where it is screwed onto the shaft. thanks Rivrduk

The metal sleeve is normally used with plastic hose. It may have been checked out. It is normal to remove these lines for the winter and reinstall them in the spring. That being said it's not unusual to find the line running to the ice maker from the valve bad. There is a heater line wrapped around it and over time the heat deteriorates the plastic hose. Something to check when you get it hooked back up. Mine was bad and the only way to replace it is to pull the Fridge into the hall supported on something, (I used a cooler), to get access. Could be the dealer checked it out and found it bad and didn't spend the time to repair it. I used copper tubing when I replaced ours, hoping it lasts longer. The cost for parts was under twenty dollars, including the Aluminum Tape used on the back of the Fridge. When I pulled the Fridge into the hall the insulation on the inside walls fell to the floor. I had to get a rather small neighbor boy to crawl into the hole and staple it up before I could reinstall the Fridge.

We have a 1999 Tradewinds.

Does the plastic line need the metal insert: YES (it is an insert, not a sleeve by the way)

Fact it it may have been checked and been OK when checked and failed later.. Rare, but it does happen...

Possibilities include the fitting you mentioned, the other end of the "Inlet" line, the solenoid valve, the line from the solenoid valve into the freezer (A common failure point)

Good luck.. With the exception of the last item all are easy to fix, If you happen to be near either Batesville IN today or Fair Play/Senica South Carolina next week.. I have the parts to fix that fitting (Extras I have absolutely NO need for) But truthfully.. They are not worth the cost of shipping.

I am in Oklahoma, but i will pay for the parts to be sent, just let me know where i can send money and an address. I thank you for the info. My question still is how can the line just come out of the outlet from the selonoid (spell) to the ice-maker. I do not believe it was checked because the waterline to the selonoid was held on by just one thread. On that side the connection is metal to metal, where the outlet is plastic to plastic. should the ring that goes around the line inside the nut be plastic or metal. It is now plastic. People on this forum are so helpful especially to we Rookies with MHs. Rivrduk My E-mail address is rivrduk2@aol.com. If you want to sent the parts, which i will pay for i will send you my mailing address. Thanks, Rivrduk
