Folks,

When we purchased our 2005 Dolphin 5342 last March, we received only one ignition key. For safety's sake I want a second ignition key.

So far I've had two "duplicate" ignition keys made - one from the local Ace Hardware, and the second from a locksmith. Neither one will enable the ignition switch to turn (they both go into the lock, but the ignition switch will not turn). I've tried flipping the keys 180deg with the same result.

The locksmith suggested I bring the MH to their store front rather than expending $85 for an on-site visit. (~$25 of fuel for the MH)

Any ideas or suggestions or what-I-should-do instructions.
JJ

I had two made for my 2002 WH/Dolphin at my local Lowes. Both worked perfectly.

This may sound stupid, but I have seen this problem before. Try turning the steering wheel left or right, while turning the ignition switch with the key in the ignition. sometime there is preesure on the wheel when the vehicle is parked.

Hi JJ,
I had a spare key made at Ace Hardware and it works perfectly. The key blank was a Hillman B89-PH.

Hello Bill, I have a 2005 that I also have had several extra keys made for. My first thought was that after they cut the key the locksmith will run the sharp edges over a wire wheel this rounds off the edges. If it's too sharp it'll catch the outside of the slot and not push the tumblers. I've had several occasions a key wouldn't work, when I took it back all they did was compare the ridges then wire wheel the edges again, it worked fine.

SUCCESS! - I went ot the local GM dealership and the parts-man made a key that worked like a charm (actually like an ignition key). He noted that the original had "a lot of sharp points - like it had been shaped by hand". Anyway - his grinding made a key that did the trick.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

JJ
