Koni Shocks on F53 Tag Axle

I just got my FSD shocks for my 99 Dolphin on the F53 chassis today. I neglected to order any for the tag axle. Is the shock on the tag the same model/number as the drive axle?

Hmmm - a 1999 F53 chassis with a tag axle? Better check your date of manufacture for the chassis, it is often different than the model year of the motorhome itself. I thought that 1997 (chassis year) was the last year that a tag axle was used with the Ford chassis. I could definitely be wrong, but please double check your build date. If you actually have the earlier 1997 Ford chassis then you'll have the 460 V8 engine instead of the newer V10, so it is an easy deduction there.

Unfortunately, the Koni web site does not list a tag axle shock for either chassis. Keep in mind that that the tag axle was NOT installed by Ford but by the coach builder - National for your Dolphin. Your tag axle was probably made by Dexter and packaged with Mor-Ryde suspension.

I have a 99 Tropical V10 with a tag. I put Bilsteins on the main wheels and ordered Monroe 34792 gas magnum shocks for the tag.

I have a 2000 dolphin. The chassis is a 1999 model with tag axle. F 53 chassis with v10

I had to replace the rubber spring assembly made by mor/ryde out of Elkhart Indiana. More/ryde made the tag axle so I ordered the shocks from them also. About $42 each

I needed to replace a broken rubber spring assembly and was scanning through my manuals and paperwork that came with the coach.

and there it was...diagrams and part numbers.. you can get the same diagram and part #'s off the mor/ryde site as well

I am about to order monroes and have been having a hard time finding the tag shock for my 99 tropical model 6371 with the V10 I read in your post that you put monroe shock #37492. So before I order I would like to be sure that that is the correct shock??

Yes. I installed them yesterday and they have helped quiet the resonant vibration in the coach. My dad was driving beside me and said that the tag would develop resonant bounce on rough pavement. It is much better now.

I also did some reading through all my manuals and came across the Mor/Ryde tag axle documentation. I called Mor/Ryde and got a detailed schematic of the shock they use. I am going to contact Koni to see if they have a version of the shock.

I put the FSDs on the front and drive axles. Drove for about 175 miles this weekend. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! Hope I can get the tag outfitted with a similar shock. If Koni does have a shock I'll post the number here for reference.
