Just purchased our 2003 Dolphin 5355 and all has been working fine... almost.

We recently couldn't open a bedroom slide, but after resetting the inverter it worked fine.

Now the living room slide won't open. Inverter looks good. Power switch is on. Tried with generator. No luck. Not even a click or sound.

Funny thing is we had everything open and working just fine last night. Just wanted to open slides in the rain to make sure we don't have any leaks.

Surely this must be an operator error or something simple. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thank you,
Susie

Hi Susie,

My slides won't operate when either the ignition is on or when there are any of four different bay doors open below any of the slides, doesn't matter what side their on either.

These are protection interlocks for safety reasons.

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply Richard.... In this case the ignition was off and all storage compartments were closed. It's basically exactly as we left it last night when we had all slides open. Just went back this morning and turned the power switch at the door and tried to open the slides. Bedroom is fine... living room won't open.

Thanks anyway. Hopefully someone else will be able shed some light on this one.

Start your engine and with it running try the slide, your house battery may be low.

I Fixed it... here's how.

I thought I'd give it one more try. Still didn't work, so I turned the slide key to the left (for bedroom) and moved the bedroom slide in a few inches and then back out again. Then, I tried the living room slide and what do you know!!! I have no idea what caused this, but now it works again!!

Thanks for all your tips.

Had the same problem with my Tradewinds. Unfortunately it turned out to be a bad main slide motor. I just replaced it last weekend.

Clean and tighten the connections on the back side.
I think JRV Products Inc was the manufacture of the switch. Santa Ana CA.

Some slides only work Ignition on.. Mine want it OFF (THey are locked out when the ignition is on)

Now.. ONe problem I have on my living room is shear bolts. I think there is another thread aroudn here about it in fact

I buy replacement bolts by the dozen they break so quickly.

Of course.. this depends on the make and model of your slide.

I am guessing that the gear reduction on the slide-out motor that is being used is not correct for that slide. If it is a big slide it could weigh 2000 lbs or more. Providing that there is nothing binding such as the gear cog drive rails are well greased, slide aligned properly which is not allowing the slide to move, the shear bolts should not shear. I have three Power Gear slide-out motors being used on three slides. I just replaced one on my kitchen slide where the motor shorted out when I went to align the drive shaft of the motor with the drive bars on the slide, I had to dis-engage the brake level at the end and turn the drive shaft. It would hardly move with a lot of force. That was telling me that the gear reduction was very very low and when activated will move the slide in or out slowly which it does. If the gear reduction wasn't so low when the motor activates trying to move that heavy slide, I would think that the bolts will shear versus breaking something that is very expensive.

I have not replaced any shear bolts and to my knowledge I wasn't aware that the bolts used in my application were any different than any other normal type bolt. Usually shear pins and bolts are made of softer material versus normal pins and bolts.

The bolts on your drive shaft are not shear pins, the roll pin or coil pin at the motor shaft connection is what is refered to as the shear pin.

Well, I am still confused because after looking at my Power Gear Slide Out motors once again, I do not see what you are referring to, Richard S.

Here is a photo of the motor I recently replaced due to having a short in the windings. The photo's are of the old defective one. The package is a completely sealed unit and the only place where there would be a replaceable pin or bolt would be where the Power Gear drive shaft is secured to the square shaft slide-out bars which you can see in the photo's.

I think that there are many different Power Gear motor drive trains and possibly mine does not have the shear pins or bolts that others are referring to.
