Looking at a 2006 National RV Islander 40G

Greetings-

My wife and I have been trying to narrow our search for our first RV and so far we've been struck by the variety of inventory available.

Rather than trying to stuck to a particular manufacturer, I've developed a criteria of "must-haves" based on the theory of "buying our third coach first"!

I've stumbled across a 2006 National RV Islander 40G with 50K on the clock that seems to fit the bill (but I'm still waiting to confirm that it's got a King bed or one can be retrofitted).

I don't really know what National's story is. Did the company go TU or was it acquired? How available are proprietary components? And, while you all are owners so I expect a certain amount of brand pride, how well are they built?

I've been mostly looking at Newmar and Tiffin units. But I wonder if I'm paying more for the brand name for them.

Thanks in advance for any experience or opinions you'd like to pass along.

I have fixed a lot of stuff on my 06 but parts are not a problem. National went belly up In 08 when the bottom fell out. They are very well built some things I noticed under carriage frame and all are painted, wood is solid not verneer ,all fixtures are upper end Cummins engine pulls great although milage is poor but it gets up grades on cruise at speed.
