well boyz and girlz... try this issue on:
1999 national Tradewinds, 300 hp cat, Freighliner chassis, allison tranny, 32000 miles. (+ or -)
Speedometer is exactly correct, verified by GPS and 2 other vehicles.
Odometer is advancing at 150% of actual miles driven, so 4 actual is 6 registered. I knew something was wrong when figuring mileage, when the result was nearly 14, when the rig generally gets 9.5.
i have reason to believe that the odometer only became erroneous recently. Normally i would overlook some minor issue, but adding false miles devalues the rig.
Any suggestions before i take it to a freightliner dealer for a hose job?
HELP!!!!

Okay, since no one else will; it is inevitable... here it comes...
Heck no, don't take it to the dealer. Think of the money you're saving, getting that kind of mileage!!

You could be on to something...at least in terms of registering miles. But if it had switched to km's it seems the total miles would have about doubled. I'm still lookin for that silver bullet answer coming from someone that has seen this and knows the fix. I appreciate your response!

One mile = about 1.6 kilometers so that is about right. When we purchased our MH it was advertised at 57,000 miles turned out to be set at kilometers so it was actually 35,000. Good deal for us since we found out after getting it home.

There is a button somewhere that will switch back and forth between miles an kilometers.

If it's a typical Freightliner dash, the same button that clears the odometer also sets the miles/kilometer mode. I think you press momentarily to reset the odometer and press and hold to change from miles to Km. Maybe someone held it too long while resetting the odometer.

at least a couple of you are steering me down the correct path. I am convinced the odometer is stuck in Km's. Freightliner consumer guidance/manuals tell me to press the RESET switch momentarily to reset the current trip reading back to zeros, and to hold it for >10 seconds to toggle between Km's and miles. The 10 second press and hold evidently isn't functioning. I did notice that a small digital dot is displayed next to the "K", so now i have some assurance that I am stuck in Km's. I plan to take it to Freightliner to see if their plug-in will correct it. Thanks everyone!

hi all...
the problem has been corrected, fixed it myself! the switch labeled RESET on the front instrument panel.... when i removed the dash panel, i carefully looked at the harness that was connected to that switch. it was not fully connected. So I pushed it in, and bingo: I can switch back and forth between Kilometers and Miles. And the good news.. the coach supposedly had about 34,000 miles. Nope... K's were displayed. So I actually had about 22,000 miles. thanks for all the insight everyone!

Thanks for posting your fix. So many problems are fixed and not reported back to the forum.
