MCD/Automotion shade....Sea Breeze
After calling MCD in Texas, they told me that they cannot install a power windshield shade in my Sea Breeze. Has anyone done a self install? There is a plastic header that may make installation difficult but there has to be a way?? I would consider a manual shade as well. I want to get rid of the curtains.

Apparently the guy who does modifications for fit no longer works there, so you need a space similar to a 2x4 in the area directly above the windshield, I have a plastic header that covers the front around the TV. I may have to modify it myself . The goal is privacy and sun protection and getting rid of the curtains.

I have seen where the front of the plastic header was cut (notched) to allow a beam or some kind of board to span horizontally from side to side to provide a mounting surface for the shade. Mine had a similar plastic surround. After replacing original tv with a flat panel, I removed the entire plastic surround. I added a new flat cabinet bottom with the front edge made vertical to provide a mounting surface for the shade.
Only after this modification would the MCD installer do the sizing and mounting of their shades.

Thanks for the information, I might just go with a Magneshade on the outside and now they have a blackout material that uses the same magnets but you can cut it to fit on the inside at night, then roller shades on the side windows which look like an easy fit.

Sorry, I don't have photo of finished work, just some in process photos. When the rain stops here I'll try to take a few.

I did not install an MCD shade, just powered sun visors and a sound bar.
Here are three pictures.

rj,
I installed my electric shade with few issues. If you could post a picture of your dash area I might give you some suggestions as to what you can do. There's always ways around things if one looks at it from all angles.
These are the best pictures that I have. If you decide that you want to do the install I'll take better pictures and send them as well. MCD will also give you some self-install instructions that are OK. I can walk you through the entire process if you want. What else has a retired teacher got to do these days???
You can see from the outside shot of the coach that we had a curved windshield to deal with but no center post. Most with a center post will use two separate shades.
There's also a computer slide out table on the dash that I had to move back so the shade would clear it to go down all the way. The other pictures show how we hid everything with a curtain that my DW put together and we just strung using a small nylon rope supported in the middle with a screw eye.
The plastic covers on the side had to be cut but you can't see that with the shade.
The electricity is brought up along the drivers side behind that plastic piece. that's also where the motors are located.
The switches are located on the dash just to the right of the steering wheel. They are in easy reach of the driver. You have to cut a square hole in the dash for the switches which is very easy with Dremmel tool, hack saw blade and some patience. I also epoxied them in place.
