MH troubles

As a new owner of a MH i am convinced that troubles just go with MH ownership as i have owned a fifth wheel, and a large bumper pull and i never had any trouble with anything but screw tightning and nothing else. What is it about MHs? They cost so much more but i see cheaper parts and more shoddy engineering than on trailers. Having some regrets already. I know for a fact that the previous owner took care of his unit great, because it is like new both inside and outside. It only has 35 thousand miles on it and was wintered in climate controlled storage. I am in constant contact with the previous owner, and he kept a complete computer run of every thing he ever did to the unit and the mileage that was on it at the time of the services. I never had any trouble with any slide on either unit i previously owned and i have not had any trouble with the slide on my MH yet, but it seems like everyone has sheer pin troubles and i guess i will too. I owned the other units for 20 years combined. Just getting this off my chest. Now i feel better. You people are so helpful and i thank you. I have a 2000 tradewinds, model 7373. Rivrduk

I like to look at working on the MH as a never ending hobby. When there isn't anything wrong I look for something anyway. My wife doesn't understand it and isn't any cheaper, but looking at it this way makes me feel better.

Are you having problems with your slides? or something else? Not very clear, but, yes MHs do have things that will need attention. Some I can do(like replace a slide out motor) and am always proud of my success, some things I have others do and pay the price.

I think I understand what Rvrduk is saying. He is probably reading too many "problem" posts and is expecting to have the same trouble everyone else is having. This could be quite concerning, especially if you are not the handyman type of person. For allot of RV'ers (including myself) fixing and maintaining a MH is fun, but if you are not so handy it could actually be stressful to think about taking your MH in for service and repairs. I don't know of too many people that want to spend a ton of money to have repair work done.

Rvrduk, my advice to you is, stop reading problem posts. Remember, people don't post when they never have problems with their RV. Enjoy life, don't worry, not everyone has major problems with their RV's, and if you do have a problem use the search feature on the forums to gain knowledge. It might be less stressful that way.

Great statement, If we hadn't experienced the power surge, the only problem we experienced on our current 5 month trip was a burned out light fixture. I don't expect to have problems when we travel.

I also have fun and enjoy repairing literally everything on my RV's past and future. I read all of the treads on this and other forums which may pertain to my particular coach, chassis or components, even if they have not failed yet, it's for future repair & maintenance. I even copy and save some treads to my Maintenance & Repair RV or my WH Chassis documents on my computor. Great to have, just in case.
Actually today I began my "Learning Curve Search" regarding features on our New to us 08 rig. There is always something to learn.
Gotta be positive, it ain't gonna break, but if and when it does, I plan on being ready.

It's a great hobby. Edouard.
