National RV - Cooktop replacement

Looks like my last project this year is to replace the cooktop in the Dolphin. The one I have is a "Wedgwood by Atwood". The manufacture date is 3/4/98. The model is a C-W30AP, 3 burner.

Normally swapping this out would be a no-brainer. But I got to looking over the bi-fold cover, which National covered in Corian and is flush with the counter top when closed. Then looking over new Atwoods, it seems they have a much taller and thicker grate these days. To me, it looks like a new one would be too tall and the existing cover wouldn't fit. I guess I could shoot for a new cover too, but don't know if the new one is identical and the old Corian would fit perfect. I'm so confused

Just wondering if any of you have done this? Or should I just call Atwood? Thanks!

I just did mine in a 1999 Tradewinds and the cover fit fine. I didn't even have to remove it to do the swap out it's fastened indipendantly. I used this Model Wedgwood. - 52176 3 Burner Slide-In Cook Top - Price: $179.00 - Factory RV Surplus - 1611 W Bristol St, Elkhart, IN 46514 (800) 325-1461 (574) 262-3327 $179. The old LP Gas line fit as well without changes.

John...
I really liked the price. Mine arrived in perfect shape and those guys are easy to deal with.

It's a bit of an Up-Grade in the bargain

Hope yours goes as well as mine did, let me know

Dick

Will do Dick. I'm going to remove the old one tomorrow and clean everything up. Since Elkhart is only about 300 miles, I should get it mid next week

Dick, send me a photo of your new cooktop. Maybe that will be something I will want to do too.

No need to send the photo, I looked at them on the web site and it's the same unit as mine, but still, I'd like to replace ours.

Send a message via ICQ to Fred and Bonnie
Dan, prior to the NRV closure I upgraded my stove to a electronic ignition model from Atwood. The unit is similiar to household units, simply turn on the gas and a 12v ignition source lights the burner. I believe it was around $250.00.

Oops, forgot to report back. Turns out it was a no brainer like I thought originally. Removed 4 side screws, gas line and slid right out. I was assumimg the cooktop was attached to the cover mechanism.

The new one was just as easy except the gas line was now a bit too long. I just bent it into a small "S" to take up the slack.

I took that cover off. It was always in the way and seems noone could figure to get it down without damage. Finally someone cracked the thing. I then built a cutting board cover to fit the opening,. used the feet from the old cover and it works wonderful. When we stop I remove the cover if needed and store it up front until ready to leave. Never had a problem with it moving. It is a little heavy but not so much my wife can't do it while I'm having my toddy......
