Hi all,
I'd like to replace our bathroom sink & counter top with solid surface like in the kitchen. Is there any reason why we can't take the old ones to any ol' company that does solid surface and have them make a new counter top/sink for us, using the old ones as a model? I'd add a back splash, too.
Thanks,
Cyndi

Not one reason why you can't. Get out the check book.

Having not a clue what a bathroom sink looks like in a National, we shopped some local mfg. concerns and found approx prices @:
$35 per linear (not sq.) ft. back splash incl.
$20 per side splash
$75-100. for a "built in" sink - lots of sizes avail.
Looks to me like $200 should cover it. NOW, if you desire they make a new form and cast a one of a kind..........See txiceman's comment above

I just replaced my sink. The counter top doesn't bother me but that cheap plastic sink had to go. I bought a oval porcelain sink in Almond color and a new Brushed Stainless Faucet from Home Depot for about $100 total. Glued the sink in with a DAP product for kitchens and Bath. The results are fantastic.

Rick, what mfg. and model of porcelain sink (almond) did you use? Would like to replace our plastic sink.

Dan did something similar in his bathroom and it's in his thread on the renovation. http://www.irv2.com/forums/f105/started-renovation-on-tradewinds-61199-11.html start looking around post #146. He used Corian and it came out real nice. Now he's doing the back splash and kitchen table in the same material. I believe his son is a Corian distributor you might want to send him a PM for further info.
From my experience with my Tradewinds there isn't any reason you can't do what you want in the bathroom, the Tradewinds were delivered that way.

I don't remember the brand but it comes in a white box,
$49.99. They only have two choices at Home Depot.

Thanks, Dick. Will take a look at Dan's post. Apparently something got spilled on our counter top and now it's bubbled up and gross, so I figure we might as well replace the whole thing. I toyed with just putting new laminate on but - well - if it happened once, it's gonna happen again.

Hey Cyndi! I tried to use the email though IRV2 but they said you don't accept emails, so I'll just throw in my 2 cents. We have corian counters throughout including the lav counter. We removed the old china sink and overlayed the original counter with a sheet of 1/2" contrasting corian. It was made up to fit and we also had a back splash made up. To secure it only takes some clear silicone sealant which "glues" it down. The hole was made prior to mounting and our vessals sink is sealed in with clear silicone as well.
It sounds like your top is laminate, so this type of "fix" wouldn't work too well. You have 2 options, remove the old sink and laminate countertop, take the top to someone who does laminate and have it relaminated with new laminate or, take the top to a Corian fabricator and have them make a top with a bowl for you. The process for Corian uses sheet goods and a premoulded bowl which is "glued" into the sheet goods and finished so you cannot detect that it is not all one piece. The beautiful thing about Corian is that it can be made in any shape or size and there is a variety of bowl sizes and shapes available. The downside is it's a little spendy. My advantage is my son still works where my countertop shop was so I can get a break.
Lynda and I are having a blast "out there". We will be in your home town the end of July, stopping to see Theberrys, so maybe we can all get together. Cheers, Dan
