Lost one of the starting batteries today. We had been noticing a bad smell that I attributed to sewer gas, We moved to a new park but the smell followed us. Finally opened the battery compartment to find one of the batteries extremely hot and venting enough you could actually see it, Sure glad it did not explode.

I went to interstate batteries in Las Vegas. The tech who tested my batteries said it is recommended that both be changed at the same time but that my other battery was very strong and he did not think it would be necessary.

"The other" meaning your coach batteries? Most probably he is correct as the coach batteries would not need to be changed at the same time you replace your 2 chassis batteries.

Not to say you are not correct since it sounds like it happened to you but; I had two starting batteries that were originally installed in 2003. In 2005 one of the original batteries failed and we were in a small town where I was only able to find one battery. The second original starting battery failed this week at between 6 or 7 years old and at least 5 years after the first starting battery failed. Since I change them out myself and since we always have the toad along I will take my chances. Of course now that I opened my big mouth both batteries will fail immediately.

Other meaning I have two starting batteries of which I only replaced one. I also have four 6volt coach batteries.
