Hey guys, and gals .

I've been lurking here for a few weeks now. You folks were a big reason I went ahead and bought the National .
Buttttttttttttt. Since buying it, I've discovered this major, major , flaw with the Dometic fridge !
Mine is running fine, looks like the recall bandaid was done, but I'm terrified to go to sleep, in the rig, with the fridge running on propane.
Has anyone installed a smoke detector, inside the burner compartment, without it going off constantly !

Cheers... Ben.

There is nothing to worry about. My Dometic refrigerator was part of the recall, but I did not have the modification done. I had made an appointment, but when I found out it was, as you put it "a Bandaid fix", I cancelled the appointment. I my opinion they should have replaced the defective part that could possibly crack. I inspect the back of mine quite often. I've never had any problems and don't expect to.

Congrats on your purchase.
The reason for the recall ; They increased the wattage of the AC 120 volt heating element without changing the design of the well the element sits in. The increased heat was cracking the well. It really had nothing to do with propane operation. Their bandaid added shielding around the propane heater in case the AC heater well cracked. There is really no issue operating the unit on propane. When they did the recall I think they said to discontinue AC operation until the bandaid was done. I opted not to have them do anything to the refer if that was all they were going to do. I did replace the AC heating element with the wattage heater the heating well was designed for.
Sleep well.

Thanks for the welcome's, and re-assurances.

I'm thinking the lower wattage element, is the way I'll go.

Cheers... Ben.
