New dvd player

Just replaced our old vcr with a dvd player. Everything works great until we try running it on the generator, it will not power on!! It works fine with shore power. Has anyone had this problem? The dvd player is a cheap sony at walmart for 59.00.
Thanks

Thread from Yahoo Groups? I bet the sine wave from the gen set is to square. Cheap chinese electronic components can't handle it.
