Hi Bill

Your generator should have circuit breakers of the front/side that may have popped. If they aren't tripped, reset them just to make sure that's not the problem.

Best of luck and Happy Trails!!!

Depending on the model/size generator that you have, there are usually two circuit breakers on the Generac and as compared to residential CBs they feel very "sloppy" when you flip them, but that's normal. Lots of good generac CBs get replaced because of that sloppy design. Before you swap them out be sure to test for current AT the breaker itself, i.e. verify that there is current reaching the breaker.

I understand that the 30 amp breaker feeds the 30 receptacle into which you plug the shore power cord , but what does the 20 amp breaker feed ?

Do you have a 50 amp coach? If you do you have a 50 amp plug on your shore cord that plugs into the 50 amp receptacle. Your plug has four male pins on it 1-ground, the round one top center, 2- 120 volt flat and 1- neutral flat. The 20 amp breaker is normally for the rear A/C, but not always. My converter/charger is on the 20 amp breaker along with the rear A/C. The 30 amp breaker is for the rest of the coach.

I'm pretty sure your coach isn't 50 AMP and doesn't have a Transfer switch. To use the genny you need to plug the shore cable into an internal receptacle, right? If the breakers on the genny aren't tripped look for the regulator board, usually under a metal cover on the generator and see if the LED is lit. If not then you probably need a new regulator board. If the genny hasn't been used for a very long time the field coils may have lost the residual magnetism and may need to be remagnetized. There are instructions on the web on how to do this with common tools, but a pro may be needed.

Generac 5-second rule...

Hi There,

I had the very same problem on my National Surf Side, I found a post by someone that said he found if he held the start button in the coach for 5 seconds after starting he got power to the outlet... I thought, "Yeah, Right"

I went out to my MH and pressed and held the Start Button for the 5 seconds and IT WORKED... I had power again to the outlet and I canceled my Generator Service Appointment. I've never had a problem after learning the 5-Second Rule.

Give it a try... It might work for you too

Richard

party coach, sounds like your fuel line from the generator to the fuel tank is cracked and sucking air.

If the generator has not been used for some time, it might be necessary to "flash" the stator which is done by holding the start for a few seconds after the motor starts.

Might the brushes be a possible thing to check on a 96?
